Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Our Collective Futures: Indigenous Peoples Partnering for Lands and Waters
7465799 P014058001
The “Our Collective Futures” project is an Indigenous-designed and governed project that aims to strengthen the climate resilience of Indigenous Peoples in the Indo-Pacific through Indigenous-led climate action. Peer-to-peer learning between First Nations in Canada and abroad seeks to contribute to enhanced awareness and capacity to develop and implement climate solutions and increased access to these solutions for Indigenous Peoples, in particular women and youth. The project equips Indigenous Peoples to organize, strategize, and lead actions at the local, regional, and international levels that address climate change and biodiversity. Strengthened partnerships and co-developed tools, strategies and guidelines for climate action aim to increase the use of gender-responsive nature-based solutions. These solutions will benefit climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation. The project centers the self-determined priorities and needs of Indigenous Peoples with regards to climate and biodiversity action.
The project aims to build on local partner Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact’s (AIPP) ongoing efforts to enhance knowledge-sharing and capacity-building among Indigenous Peoples and their active participation in decision-making related to conservation and climate action. The project aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Project activities include: (1) convening knowledge circles for Indigenous Peoples on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Indigenous governance as climate and biodiversity solutions; (2) identifying guidelines, tools and actions that enable Indigenous communities to participate in and lead climate action; and (3) supporting peer-to-peer knowledge sharing workshops between First Nations women and youth and Indigenous women and youth from Malaysia and Thailand to empower Indigenous women and promote climate leadership in implementing climate and biodiversity solutions.

Support for the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) – FAO 2025 to 2028
7466281 P015252001
April 2025 - Global food insecurity is rising at an increasing rate, exacerbated by conflict, climate change and rising inflation. Rigorous and reliable food security analysis is critical to ensuring humanitarian decision makers can use resources effectively.
With GAC’s support, the Global Strategic Programme of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative, hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), helps to provide the humanitarian sector with the best possible food security analysis upon which to base their decisions, to help ensure needs-based policy and programming. Governments, United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, and civil society and humanitarian sector actors use the IPC’s classification and analytical approach to collaboratively determine the severity and magnitude of country-specific acute and chronic food insecurity and acute malnutrition. These determinations are made according to internationally-recognized evidence-based standards and using
