About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Advancing Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment in Moldova

This technical assistance project is in support of a $120 million sovereign loan to the Republic of Moldova and aims to support climate resilience and gender equality in rural areas of Moldova. This is done through sustainable management of forest, pasture and agricultural resources, as well as economic and educational empowerment of women. Project activities include: (1) delivering gender-sensitive trainings on climate-smart agriculture, forest management, and integrated ecosystem-based agroforestry; (2) establishing nurseries for forest community -based enterprises; and (3) providing technical equipment and training to local public authorities.

Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership - Ukraine

This project is part of Canada’s Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program. It supports local and regional women’s rights organizations (WROs), lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex plus (LBTQI+) groups and feminist networks working to promote the rights of women and girls and advance gender equality globally. It provides multi-year core funding and rapid responsive funding, strengthening institutional capacity and bolstering feminist alliances, as WROs and their networks are critical change agents. The Program continues to respond to the globally recognized and significant gap in funding and support for WROs and movements worldwide. Financing rural women’s climate action in Nigeria

This project aims to increase the climate and biodiversity resilience of local communities in Nigeria, including men and women in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Ogun, Lagos, and Edo states. Project activities include: (1) launching 2 calls for proposals for local organizations working with women on climate action and biodiversity in Nigeria; (2) training selected organizations and women beneficiaries in fundraising, financial literacy and climate-smart agriculture; (3) delivering gender-sensitive skills training of target communities in biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation and mitigation; (4) implementing gender-sensitive local climate action awareness campaigns; and (5) building capacity of the local implementing partner in the design and implementation of gender-sensitive climate action projects.

Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership - Tanzania

This project is part of Canada’s Women’s Voice and Leadership Program, which supports local and regional women’s organisations and networks that are working to promote women’s rights, and advance women’s empowerment and gender equality in developing countries. This is done by supporting their activities, building their institutional capacity, and promoting network and alliance-building as women’s rights and feminist organizations are critical agents of change. The Program also responds to the globally recognized, significant gap in funding and support to women’s rights organizations and movements around the world.
The project’s ultimate outcome is to increase the enjoyment of human rights by women and girls in all their diversity and the advancement of gender equality in Tanzania. The project will directly benefit around 20 women’s networks, 30 WROs, 20 YFOs, and 10 LBTQI+ organizations (exact number TBD by the feminist grant-making committees after reviewing applications), 3,000 women, 2,000 young women, and 16 non-binary people. Indirectly, it will reach more than 40,000 individuals through programming, advocacy, and networks, not only in urban settings, but also in rural, undeserved, and Indigenous communities.

Care matters - Empowering women caregivers and people with disabilities

This project aims to enhance the well-being of unpaid caregivers and care receivers, particularly women and people with disabilities in selected municipalities in Havana and Pinar del Río, Cuba. Strengthening Rights and Building Peace in Vulnerable Communities of Colombia

Improving Medical Capacities in Peace Operations

This project supports the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) capacity build uniformed men and women medical and paramedical personnel for peace operations. UNITAR delivers basic field trauma training, including mental health components, and advanced medical training or a training of trainers.
