Participate in a study tour to Ottawa as part of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas and Study in Canada Scholarships Programs

The project aims to enhance the role of national media in raising public awareness and shaping the national agenda on sexual and reproductive rights, and in ending gender-based violence against women in remote rural areas. It would facilitate collaboration among social and health workers, community radio, community leaders and youth to combat social stigmas related to sexual and reproductive rights and gender-based violence. The project would also increase the participation of women’s rights organisations and women leaders in the development of public policies on sexual and reproductive rights, influencing policy makers to implement gender-responsive actions. The project would directly support 140 journalists, 30 media organizations and outlets, and 30 civil society and women’s organizations, reaching an estimated 400,000-600,000 women, adolescents, and gender-diverse people, as well as 9,000,000 Tunisians through media coverage.

December 2024 - As a result of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, Sudan is facing a complex and unprecedented humanitarian crisis. This is characterized by massive protection violations, the displacement of over 11 million people and dire levels of acute food insecurity and malnutrition in many parts of the country.

With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger Canada aims to reduce mortality and morbidity, improve wellbeing and support the dignity of conflict-affected refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Central Darfur and South Kordofan, with a particular focus on women, adolescent girls and children under the age of five. Project activities include: (1) providing life-saving nutrition treatment to acutely malnourished women and children; (2) provision of sexual and reproductive health services, such as family planning, to women and adolescent girls; (3) construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems, gender-sensitive sanitation facilities and waste management systems; (4) distribution of gender-sensitive hygiene and non-food item kits to vulnerable households; (5) distribution of multi-purpose cash assistance, with a particular focus on women-headed households; and (6) support for local health facilities, health workers and other service providers in the form of training, nutrition products and data collection tools.

November 2024 - Older Ukrainians face unique challenges accessing essential items and basic services in conflict-affected areas. This is particularly the case in front-line areas such as Donetsk and Kharkiv, where intense fighting and displacement severely impacted infrastructure and livelihoods. With 8.9 million individuals over the age of 60 across the country, addressing this need is crucial.

With GAC’s support, HelpAge Canada helps provide essential services to 5,000 older people in need in Dnipro, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. These services include life-saving psychosocial support, protection, hygiene kits, multi-purpose cash assistance (MPCA), legal aid, and winterization non-food items. This project aims to enhance the resilience and well-being of at-risk older people, including those with disabilities, by providing sustained access to essential care, basic services, and support in Eastern Ukraine. This project will support the Languages Canada’s activities for the implementation of the Professional English training for Talent Development in Strategic Industries in Mexico Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology of Jalisco, Mexico (SICyT).

DFATD will support the Canada Learning Initiative in China (CLIC)'s activities for the implementation of the CLIC 1,000 Student Celebration Workshop and the administration of bursaries to the Canadian Alumni Delegates to attend the Forum.

This project aims to improve the safety, security, and well-being of forcibly displaced women in Mexico, by facilitating access to comprehensive support systems and integration programs. Project activities include: (1) liaising with relevant government authorities to identify women displaced by violence who need to be relocated to ensure their safety; (2) providing women with safe transport to new cities, temporary housing upon arrival, and assistance in securing long-term housing; (3) providing psychosocial support and counseling sessions with women participants; (4) referring women participants to vocational training and skills development programs; (5) facilitating job placement meetings between women participants and private sector employers; (6) supporting the enrollment process for relocated children in local schools; and (7) conducting advocacy and awareness-raising workshops to improve policies and programs targeting the integration of displaced populations. The project benefits 100 forcibly displaced women in Mexico who are survivors of gender-based violence and are taking part in the UN Refugee Agency’s Local Integration Program.

December 2024 – The humanitarian impact of the conflict in northern Ethiopia from 2020 to 2022 continues to be felt. The Tigray region suffered significant damage, with much of its healthcare and water infrastructure damaged or destroyed. Many people remain displaced from their homes and basic services remain limited for much of the population.

With GAC’s support, CARE Canada helps provide a multi-sectoral humanitarian response to critical needs in Tigray. Project activities include: (1) restoring water points and sanitation facilities; (2) supporting local health facilities; and (3) providing protection services to mitigate the increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for vulnerable women and girls.

November 2024 - Political instability, conflict and natural disasters have left more than 25 million people across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in need of humanitarian assistance. Populations face insecurity, malnutrition, and limited access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Also, hunger, displacement and conflict increase the risk of sexual and gender-based violence, especially for the most vulnerable.

With GAC’s support, the Mennonite Central Committee provides a multi-sectoral response targeting displaced and conflict-affected people in North Kivu, DRC. Project activities include: (1) the provision of multi-purpose cash transfers (2) distribution of emergency non-food items and (3) the provision of protection services to mitigate the increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for vulnerable women and girls.

This project aims to improve access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for women and girls in the Philippines. Project activities include: (1) improving the availability and use of comprehensive SRH services in non-profit, community-based clinics; (2) training community health volunteers and teachers to deliver SRH and comprehensive sexual education information in communities and schools; and (3) strengthening women’s rights and community-based organizations and networks to advocate for policies related to SRH financing and comprehensive sexual education at the national and local levels. This project benefits approximately 100,000 individuals, particularly women, girls, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex plus individuals living in disaster-prone and urban-poor communities.
