Through our funding, the Department will be supporting the Forum of Federations to implement the main elements of its 2023-2028 Strategic Plan and achieve its mission which is to strengthen democratic and inclusive governance in established and emerging federal and multilevel countries through knowledge creation and mobilization, capacity development, and support to inclusive policy implementation processes.

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The UNFPA uses these funds, along with other donors’ funding, to achieve its mandate.

UNFPA’s mandate is to support countries in using population data to develop policies and programs that reduce poverty and ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect. UNFPA focuses on three main areas: reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and population and development strategies.

Canada’s support to UNFPA contributes to increasing access to reproductive health, developing development policies that take population dynamics into account, and improving the status of girls and women worldwide.

This grant represents Canada’s institutional support to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. Guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF supports the rights of children to help meet their basic needs and expand opportunities for children to reach their full potential. UNICEF seeks to improve the social and economic conditions of children by ensuring that they have access to health care, clean water, food, and education. UNICEF also works to ensure that children are protected from violence and abuse and receive relief in disasters.

Canada's support to UNICEF helps to advance Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy. This policy seeks to help the poorest and most vulnerable, support fragile states and underpin Canada’s international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

This program provides financial support to the Government of New Brunswick to foster its participation in summits, ministerial conferences and other related international Francophonie ctivities. This program promotes Canadian interests and is consistent with Canada’s political and economic objectives for the Francophonie.

This project aims to improve comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for marginalized women, children and adolescents in Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam. Project activities include: (1) developing a toolkit to guide provision of gender-responsiveness, cultural sensitivity and adolescent friendly health and nutrition services; (2) organizing exchange visits for health workers to experience and learn from skilled and qualified SRH providers; (3) training community groups on SGBV, its impact on physical and psychological health, and prevention; and (4) engaging with government bodies to adapt existing policies or promote policy changes (as needed) and allocate sufficient resources for resilient health systems that can met the SRHR needs of rights-holders. In Bangladesh the project is implemented in the urban slums and underserved areas of Chattogram City Corporation and is expected to reach a total of 662,040 beneficiaries. In Nepal, the project is implemented in 12 municipalities covering 4 districts in Karnali province: Jajarkot, Rukum, Dailekh, and Salyan. The project directly benefits 11,700 children with improved nutrition, 82,080 women of reproductive age with improved comprehensive SRH services and 7,860 mother’s group members and their male partners with improved knowledge on SRHR and nutrition. In Vietnam, the proposed project is implemented in 15 communes in Son La province (6 communes in Thuan Chau district, five communes in Yen Chau communes and four communes in Son La city). It benefits 5,200 children under 5, improve knowledge and skills on child health and nutrition for 10,000 local people, and build capacity for 150 health workers and 80 teachers on CSE and communication skills.

The initiative aims to provide better protection for children living in vulnerable situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), by involving the government, communities, families and the children themselves, particularly girls and children of diverse gender identities. The project aims to improve the protection and well-being of vulnerable children, particularly girls, in three DRC cities: Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Bunia. To achieve this result, the initiative relies on three key areas: strengthening the capacities of public institutions, involving grassroots communities and improving inclusive and sustainable access to services for vulnerable children.

This project aims to strengthen the capacity of the African Union Commission (AUC) to support the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Strategic Plan (2024-2028) in advancing continental priorities for sustainable and inclusive development. It includes support to the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security to support democracy, peace and security. It also supports technical and vocational education and training of teachers and leaders through support to the AUC’s Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

This project aims to contribute to the World Health Organization (WHO)’s global mpox response to stop and contain the current oubreak of mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), through coordinated global, regional and national efforts. With a targeted focus on priority groups and populations in situations of vulnerability, the project seeks to rapidly detect and control outbreaks, advance research and ensure equitable access to medical countermeasures, as well as minimize zoonotic transmission. Project activities include: (1) strengthening surveillance and detection through enhanced capacity reinforcement; (2) enhancing community protection, with a focus on addressing stigma and discrimination associated with mpox, particularly related to sexual orientation, gender identity and HIV status; and (3) providing safe and scalable care, including the protection of healthcare workers and patients.

This project aims to improve educational achievement among Indigenous students, especially girls in Alta Verapaz and Quiche departments of Guatemala. Project activities include: 1) offering scholarships, leadership and life skills trainings to Indigenous youth mentors; 2) preparing e-learning resources accessible for students and providing training to teachers and young mentors to integrate them into learning; and 3) providing gender equality workshops and training to teachers, parents, community leaders and students. The project will engage 5584 direct beneficiaries, including at least 5305 indigenous students, primarily female, along with 6707 indirect beneficiaries in partner school communities, for a total of 12 291 beneficiaries. At least 95% of all beneficiaries will be indigenous and at least 60% will be female.

This project aims to empower 65 indigenous youths of 5 Maya Golden Landscape, Belize watershed communities through training and mentorship in watershed monitoring and environmental advocacy. By building their skills and knowledge, the organization aims to ensure equal, gender-inclusive participation and representation of youths who can lead conservation efforts and secure sustainable, nature-based livelihood opportunities for future generations.
