About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Support to Arctic Athabaskan Council

The project aims to increase the contributions by Athabaskan People in international Arctic research, discussions and events and increase consideration of Athabaskan People and interests in international decision-making by strengthening the ability of Athabaskan Peoples to engage in International Arctic Research discussions and events; increasing the capacity of AAC to do research; enhancing the engagement by AAC in Arctic Council Working Groups and other fora; and increasing commitment by stakeholders in Arctic fora to reflect interests of Athabaskan Peoples in votes and declarations. To do so, the project builds internal capacity for growth and progress; establishes an Elders Advisory Circle and Youth Advisory; implements a new outreach and communications strategy; and carries out Indigenous-led research, collaboration and diplomacy in fora including the Arctic Council’s Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response Working Group, the Arctic Council’s Sustainable Development Working Group, and the Arctic Risk Management Network.

This project seeks to improve the health and resilience of vulnerable households, particularly women and girls, in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Project activities include: (1) Providing training to women Community Health Facilitators (CHF’s) to deliver gender-sensitive, primary health services; (2) delivering modular rights-based, gender-sensitive basic health education through multiple touchpoints to community members (via loan meetings, workshops, community events and household outreach); and (3) equipping CHF ’s and health supervisors to respond to critical health issues relevant to target communities (i.e. increased communication about dengue outbreaks, etc.) via face-to-face and digital information sharing. This project expects to reach and positively impact at least 6.4 million direct beneficiaries, encompassing 1.5 million people in Bangladesh, 3.2 million in India and 1.7 million in Nepal. Also, the project aims to reach over 1 million indirect beneficiaries, bringing its total reach to 7.4 million direct and indirect beneficiaries. Beneficiaries include youth and adolescents (aged 15 to 19 years), poor households, and men and boys, recognizing the importance of engaging men that support women’s and family health.

This is institutional support to the United Nations University - Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) to implement new 5-year strategy (2025 to 2030). This strategy focuses on expanding research, capacity-building, knowledge-sharing, and partnerships to address global challenges in water, environment, and sanitation. As part of this strategy, UNU-INWEH seeks to explore new areas of work, including the development of post-graduate degree programs, additional in-person and online courses, new UNU Hubs on academic campuses, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training programs in the Global South, with emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region.
UNU-INWEH’s efforts contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and align with the Feminist International Assistance Policy by prioritizing marginalized groups, particularly women, who are disproportionately impacted by water-related challenges.
The expected activities of this project include: (1) strengthening capacity for policy-relevant research and education to address global water, environmental, and health challenges and developing initiatives to influence policy and communicate findings to academia and professionals; (2) expanding strategic partnerships to connect researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to encourage the uptake of research and the delivery of evidence-based solutions; and (3) increasing visibility and impact through flagship reports, peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, and institute-led events on international platforms.

Enhanced security and anti-crime capacities of King Hussein’s Bridge

This project aims to strengthen Jordan’s and neighbouring countries’ or territories’ security by improving the security screening capabilities and infrastructure at the King Hussein Bridge (KHB) which connects Jordan and the West Bank. Through the Counter-Terrorism capacity building program’s support, the United Nations office on drugs and crime seeks to strengthen the technical and operational capacity of Jordanian law enforcement, intelligence services, and border security officials operating at the KHB. Project activities include: (1) upgrading infrastructure, equipment, and software at the KHB to ensure security authorities are properly equipped to undertake security screening operations in line with international best practices and standards; (2) providing training and technical assistance to security entities at the bridge to help them investigate security issues, monitor surveillance, and screen passenger and cargo; and (3) reinforcing existing cooperation between security authorities by facilitating interagency working groups and regional conferences to share best practices.

It will also promote a safe use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by raising awareness of online risks.
