About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Building Capacities for Eco-Resilience in the Philippines

This project aims to increase resilience of Philippine ecosystems and citizens, particularly Indigenous Peoples and women and girls dependent on ecosystem services. It supports the adoption and implementation of an ecosystem-based DRR (Disaster Risk and Resilience) approach (Eco-DRR), namely measuring and mitigating the impacts of natural disasters on communities and ecosystems, and financing and planning ecosystem restoration and recovery activities when disasters occur.
Project activities include: (1) providing training, technology, and platforms to improve ecosystem-based disaster planning, assessment, and rehabilitation; (2) establishing incubator sites and inter-agency Eco-DRR command centers, in collaboration with the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Project activities include: (1) establishing government-to-citizen platforms technical hubs; (2) creating a peer support program for women and youths; (3) supporting data and evidence-based action-researches; (4) organizing solidarity tours; (5) establishing the Future Leaders' Empowerment program; (6) establishing micro-grant program for evidence-based advocacy campaigns; (7) establishing capacity building programs for women candidates and locally elected women office-bearers. Advancing Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment in Moldova

Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership - Ukraine

This project is part of Canada’s Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program. It supports local and regional women’s rights organizations (WROs), lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex plus (LBTQI+) groups and feminist networks working to promote the rights of women and girls and advance gender equality globally. It provides multi-year core funding and rapid responsive funding, strengthening institutional capacity and bolstering feminist alliances, as WROs and their networks are critical change agents. Financing rural women’s climate action in Nigeria

Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership - Tanzania

This project is part of Canada’s Women’s Voice and Leadership Program, which supports local and regional women’s organisations and networks that are working to promote women’s rights, and advance women’s empowerment and gender equality in developing countries. This is done by supporting their activities, building their institutional capacity, and promoting network and alliance-building as women’s rights and feminist organizations are critical agents of change. The Program also responds to the globally recognized, significant gap in funding and support to women’s rights organizations and movements around the world.
The project’s ultimate outcome is to increase the enjoyment of human rights by women and girls in all their diversity and the advancement of gender equality in Tanzania. The project will directly benefit around 20 women’s networks, 30 WROs, 20 YFOs, and 10 LBTQI+ organizations (exact number TBD by the feminist grant-making committees after reviewing applications), 3,000 women, 2,000 young women, and 16 non-binary people. Indirectly, it will reach more than 40,000 individuals through programming, advocacy, and networks, not only in urban settings, but also in rural, undeserved, and Indigenous communities.

Enhanced sustainability of biodiversity and livelihoods in Ghana

This project aims to enhance sustainability of biodiversity and enhance local livelihoods, particularly for women, in the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary and Avu Lagoon Community Protected Area. It supports these communities by managing natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and providing critical ecosystem services. The project seeks to focus on protecting endangered species by increasing the participation of women, youth and marginalized groups in decision making forums such as the Community Resource Management Area. It also aims to provide support to women to develop diverse skills in sectors such as ecotourism, shea production and wildlife protection. Project activities include: (1) providing technical assistance to co-create, use, and disseminate knowledge for biodiversity conservation to non-governmental organizations, academic, and community groups, fostering inclusive and locally informed conservation efforts; (2) supplying and managing enterprises established through agribusiness and ecotourism; (3) establishing and strengthening market-ready and business-capable community cooperatives to operate ecotourism, plastic waste management, and agribusiness enterprises in a sustainable and inclusive manner; (4) developing feasibility and pilot programs to access species reintroduction, breeding, and conservation translocation strategies; and (5) providing technical assistance to community members, including women and youth, to protect land from destructive use and restore degraded areas.
