About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

It will also promote greater access to all documents in the archival holdings for consultation by a larger public.

Mahone Bay Area Business, School, and Church Related Archival Project

The Mahone Bay Area Business, School, and Church-Related Archival Project focuses on processing and making available online 10 small fonds accruals and an additional 11 new fonds which are not processed. The related work will include processing to archival standards, preparation of finding aids, drafting descriptions, and making the descriptive information available through the Mahone Bay Museum's internal collections management database as well as the MemoryNS archival database. Furthermore, a selection of photographs and documents will be scanned and made available on the Mahone Bay Museum website and its Facebook page. Finally, a selection of 10-15 documents and photographs will be displayed in an exhibit regarding archival acquisitions from May to October.

Description and Digitization of Photographs from the 100 Non Fonds

The project will make available online photographs and posters (descriptions and digitized copies) produced during the 50 years of the 100 Nons organization. The descriptions and digital copies will be posted on the website, and preservation copies will be transferred to and stored in the reliable CCA/LAC/Artefactual digital deposit. Disqus software with a web interface will be added to the organization's database to improve interactivity.

Labrador Image Identification and Dissemination Initiative – Phase 2

Building on the success of Phase One, Them Days will continue to identify photographs and negatives in its collection. Them Days will start a naming project with the community and online to get the photographs in order. A project researcher will travel around Labrador with copies of the pictures, meet with elders, add the results to the finding aid database, and ensure the images are stored according to safe archival standards.

The RAD-compliant fonds-level descriptions will initially be available only at the JHSSA offices but later be made digitally accessible through the JHSSA website. Additionally, the JHSSA will create finding aids with item-level descriptions for its larger collections. Finally, the JHSSA will Identify gaps within its current holdings in order to solicit donations of material to help complete its archival collection.

The Federated Women's Institute of Ontario (FWIO) will preserve, digitize, and make accessible its Tweedsmuir Community History Collections (commonly called "Tweedsmuirs") and record books found across Ontario. Continuing from the first phase of this project, it will further digitize the remaining Tweedsmuir collections and records books across Ontario, which will be made available to the public. Moreover, FWIO will inspect and repair documents being digitized, link WI documents already available on other websites, and, to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the WI movement in 2017, create a virtual exhibit and library, which will document the many halls, community buildings, monuments, cairns, etc. created by WI members as part of community service.
