In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Description:

In Phase II of this project, the Multicultural History Society of Ontario (MHSO) will perform the intellectual and physical rearrangement and re-description of its archival holdings in accordance with current archival standards, with a focus on digital and textual records. MHSO will also finalize descriptions for its ethnic newspaper and historical photograph collections; review, appraise, arrange, process/preserve, and describe textual records; and produce administrative histories for the newspapers and custodial histories for selected images in the photograph collection based on new research. This will result in RAD-compliant descriptions at the fonds, series, sub-series, and item levels (as appropriate) for all archival holdings. These descriptions will be entered into open-source software and made available to the public through the MHSO's website and various archival information networks.

Contributions of Religious Communities to the Diocese of Sherbrooke

Description:

The Regroupement des archives du Séminaire de Sherbrooke et de l'Archdiocèse de Sherbrooke (RASSAS) is developing a virtual exhibit on the importance of the contributions of the religious communities within the Diocese of Sherbrooke. The activities planned to create this virtual exhibit will involve mainly meetings with the religious communities, research in their holdings and archival collections, the selection of records, digitization, and writing of the script for the exhibit. Some of the later steps in the design of the virtual exhibit will include editing and translation of texts and thumbnails, and the visual and technical work in partnership with the company responsible for the graphics and putting the exhibit online.

Collections Accessibility Project - Stage 2

Description:

Stage 2 of the Collections Accessibility Project will build upon the increased public access to the collections of the Bulkley Valley Historical & Museum Society, enabled by the digital framework achieved in Stage 1 (2015-2016). Related work will include accessioning, cleanup of existing data entry records, design and implementation of a process for digitization, digitization of high demand and significant collections, improvement of storage conditions/conservation treatments (where required), as well as development and implementation of updated policies for archival collecting, management, storage, and conservation. The Museum will also further develop the online interface to support additional digital content, including integration of an online embedded document viewer, photo commenting, and other software.
