In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Sliding Rossland's History into the Digital Age

This project aims to digitize, rehouse, and add items to the organization’s online database. Digitizing these items will allow RMDC to utilize these collections to fill in gaps in Rossland’s documentary history as well as increase public access to and awareness of the collection. The organization will train staff and volunteers to learn the software and steps needed to carry out the project.

These interviews will cover topics like language revitalization, traditional governance, medicine, land stewardship, and family histories. The collection will include both written transcriptions and audio recordings of the interviews.

Preserving Indigenous Governance, Rights, and Title Records of Stó:lo Nation - Phase 3

This project will ensure the preservation and accessibility of records added to the Stó:lo Library and Archives - thereby increasing access to, and awareness of, the history of the Stó:lo Nation, an organization of Stó:lo communities which has its roots in several forerunner organizations focused on Stó:lo governance and rights and title, including participation in the modern treaty process, dating back to the 1970s.

Hearing our Elders Digitization Project

The key activities are transcribing the recordings and working with fluent hul'q'umi'num' speaking Elders to translate and verify accuracy. There are 830 recordings created by a respected SFN Elder during her decades teaching hul'q'umi'num' to community members. The collection was donated in 2020. Many of these lessons included teachings from other community Elders - most of which have now passed.

40+ years of EDAM: Transfer, Access, and Preservation of Dance Archives

The project aims to digitize, preserve, and provide access to EDAM’s collection of ¾” U-matic, ½” open reel, Hi8, VHS and Mini DV video tapes that document unique dance works presented at EDAM from 1982 to 2012. This will be the major archival project to commemorate forty years of EDAM, and aims to draw awareness to its important contribution to Canadian dance history, and internationally to the dance form Contact Improvisation.

Bunibonibee Cree Nation Oral History Interviews and Digitization Project

BCN is developing a collection of documented oral history through mapping interviews with elders and knowledge holders. The collection currently includes audio recordings, notes, interview maps, and GIS shapefiles from 40 interviews carried out between 2008 and 2015. The current project aims to strengthen this collection. The project team will digitize past oral history interview materials and maps for secure storage and use by the Nation. It will also build the Nation’s collection of documented oral history through conducting 7 new interviews focused on the BCN people’s connections to their ancestral lands.

On-site Archival Storage for Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami

This project will establish an on-site Archives space within the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami office. At present, ITK's Archives are stored in the office basement or in an off-site third party storage facility. The ITK Archives currently consists of an estimated 1200 boxes of paper records, photos, tapes, film and other media, as well as nearly 40 maps and other large format records. The contents of many of the boxes in off-site storage are currently unidentified. An important component of this project will be creating a high-level inventory for the entire Archive.
