Provide original and novel information about one of the few modern ecosystems that replicate the Proterozoic oceans. While most of lacustrine datasets in Antarctica come from the McMurdo Valley, this research will contribute valuable chemical and geological data from the largest surface lake in East Antarctica, Lake Untersee.

Find evidence of subglacial meltwater channels in the Milne Glacier which is in the Qikiqtaaluk region of Nunavut using a technique called ice-penetrating radar (IPR) to identify features at the base of the glacier (basal features) that indicate where subglacial melting is occurring.

This research aims to model the impact of human-induced and natural disturbances—specifically placer mining, industrial noise, and wildfire—on moose distribution and density in the Klondyke Goldfields. The project aligns with Tr’ondëk Hwëch’n First Nations (THFN) Ecological and Land Use Monitoring Plan and addresses broader objectives of Indigenous-led ecological research.

This project is in partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation (VGFN) with input from First Nation School Board (FNSB), this collaborative research asks what are VGFN perspectives on re-conceptualizing nation-led education. The research objectives are to: (i) articulate Gwich’in perspectives on epistemology (theory of knowledge), pedagogy (how we teach) and assessment; (ii) design a community-oriented document of these perspectives; and (iii) pilot resources that demonstrate framework applications.

This research will examine the impacts of wildfire for northern reptiles and amphibians, which are generally understudied and are sensitive to changes in environmental conditions. They will focus on populations of red-sided garter snakes in the South Slave region of the Northwest Territories and Wood Buffalo National Park, following the unprecedented 2023 fire season in this region.

This research addresses critical gaps in the understanding of walrus ecology in Nunavik’s Hudson Strait by combining Inuit Knowledge (IK) with scientific methods.

This research will contribute to the understanding of the impacts of wildfire mitigation practices on northern boreal ecosystems. The results will be used to inform and guide necessary forest fuel management in a way that mitigates potential negative effects on wildlife, while preserving its effectiveness at reducing wildfire risk.
