Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Lightweight Composite Mechanisms Enabling Deployable Optical Earth Observation Payloads
24STDPV29
The proposed project advances Wyvern’s proprietary deployable optics technology wherein optical components of an Earth observation (EO) payload are stowed compactly on launch and unfurled in orbit. The smaller, lighter resultant payload minimizes cost of launch. This enables cost-efficient collection of high-quality hyperspectral imagery – imagery with a large number of bands – of the Earth. Project objectives include design, test, and characterization of lightweight composite material mechanisms for deployment of optical surfaces and accompanying baffling. This project will improve the space-readiness of these components aimed for use in a future generation of Wyvern satellites.

Development of Carbon-Neutral fuel for Hybrid Rocket Engine
24STDPW13
Reaction Dynamics (RDX) is developing a hybrid rocket engine that will power a low cost, eco-friendly, orbital launch vehicle. A key part of this endeavour is the development of a carbon neutral fuel for the rocket engine. The following project has for main goal the selection of a fuel mixture that will maximize performance, while being made of bioderived polymers. Of key interest are determining the thermal, mechanical, and transport properties (specific heat, heat of combustion, thermal conductivity, strength, etc), that are required for best performance in RDX’s engines. Then, working with a bioderived polymer supplier, RDX will manufacture a fuel with net-zero emissions and test it in a demonstrator rocket engine.

Market/Technical Feasibility - Offshore Oil Platform Decommissioning AUV
1021552
Impossible Metals Canada Inc. is undertaking a three-month project to conduct product discovery based on a preliminary business case for extending the use of existing intellectual property beyond its initial design intent. The technology initially developed for deep sea mining has been identified to have potential applicability for the offshore oil and gas decommissioning market enabling a lower-cost and lower-risk solution to the existing use of divers and ROVs in the final stage of decommissioning.

Pea Genomics: Using Computational Analytics for Enhanced Genomic Prediction.
1018576
The proposed Grant & Contribution project aims to perform essential
computational analyses in support of the PeaCE (Pea Climate Efficient)
project approved by Genome Canada. This entails evaluating the genetic
variation present within the Climate-Smart Pea Germplasm Resource
(CSPGR), a collection comprising 2000 lines.
The project also seeks to develop an advanced genomic prediction
framework for peas, with the potential to expedite the breeding cycle and
facilitate the integration of greater genetic diversity into breeding programs.
To achieve this, the project will employ a combination of cutting-edge
statistical models and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML)
algorithms to analyze genomic data and predict crucial traits in peas,
including disease resistance, stress tolerance, yield potential, and other
significant agronomic characteristics. By leveraging these computational
tools, the project aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of pea
breeding programs.
