The Project Grant program is expected to:

• Support a diverse portfolio of health-related research and knowledge translation proposals at any stage, from discovery to application, including commercialization;
• Promote relevant collaborations across disciplines, professions, and sectors; and
• Contribute to the creation and use of health-related knowledge.

The objective of the Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) program is to recognize and support the next generation of outstanding innovators, knowledge workers, creative thinkers and researchers at a pivotal time in their careers. The program provides funding and flexibility, empowering Canadian and international leaders in innovation and scholarship of tomorrow to develop the skills to build world-class research and drive Canadian prosperity and competitiveness.

The specific objectives are to create a collaborative Canadian Cannabis and Brain Health Consortium to:
¿ Undertake data collection, harmonization, and sharing to create a Canadian Cannabis and Brain Health multi-site cohort that will develop a broader understanding concerning brain health effects of cannabis use, which may ultimately lead to guidance for therapeutic and recreational use, as well as for cannabis use disorder;
¿ Generate and share new knowledge concerning prevalence, patterns, and contributing factors of cannabis use to answer cannabis-related health research questions specific to one of the research priority areas stated above and outlined in the Legislative Review of the Cannabis Act;
¿ Address pressing issues on cannabis use and brain health from a lifespan perspective and assess the impacts of cannabis legalization/commercialization on health and public health;
¿ Facilitate data access and enhance knowledge sharing through the CCBHC to address key data gaps to inform policy development at the federal, provincial, territorial and local levels.

The original objectives of the SPOR National Data Platform, as outlined in the 2017 SPOR National Data Platform Funding Opportunity were to:
1. Create efficiencies in data collection and reduce the time required for researchers to access multi-jurisdictional data.
2. Establish systems of retrieval, standardization/harmonization and linkage of high-priority clinical data to administrative and social data to enable richer population-based multi-jurisdictional studies.
3. Establish valid and reliable methods for linking primary research data (e.g., cohorts, clinical trials) to health administrative, social and other data to create efficiencies in data collection.
4. Inform and provide innovative and ethical solutions to data access and its use through patient and partner engagement.
5. Facilitate access to data analytic and data storage services, as needed, for multi-jurisdictional studies.

The intent of this funding opportunity is to continue activities that support these objectives and maintain the CDP’s existing core operations, governance, and partnerships during the extension period thereby ensuring stability and continuity, preserving national coordination capacity and preventing disruption of services.
