Grants and Contributions

The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) primary mandate is to oversee the coordination of international humanitarian responses, in partnership with national and international actors, to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. This grant represents Canada’s support to the UN Country-Based Pooled Funds (CBPFs) managed by OCHA in various countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Sudan.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate through activities that include: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

It transports humanitarian workers, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. This project operates in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.

With the support of Global Affairs Canada (GAC), WFP provides targeted food assistance to vulnerable populations to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity and protect livelihoods. Project activities include: (1) distributing food and cash-based transfer; (2) providing supplementary feeding for children under the age of 5 years, as well as pregnant and lactating women; and (3) providing logistical support and enabling access to the most remote and challenging locations.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world’s refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally displaced persons.

This agreement is for phase one of the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant project to enable more homes and improve densification.

This project will offer active travellers the ability to explore and be active in the community by connecting the Confederation Trails to multi-use pathways in the community; a floating dock/boardwalk system that offers access to the Hillsborough River; and an Active Transportation Visitor Centre that will provide storage for and access to active transportation equipment.

As the ATB was initially built for permafrost ground conditions, in the last 30 years, the building has experienced permafrost thawing and subsequent ground shifting which has enhanced the deterioration of the structure’s foundation.
The project seeks to construct a new ATB to mitigate against the impacts of the permafrost-related foundation issues experienced by the existing ATB.

To expand production capabilities and improve efficiency by onshoring previously outsourced processes and implementing advanced cutting, forming, and material processing capabilities.

To strengthen competitiveness and supply-chain resilience by expanding domestic manufacturing capacities for microLED and micro-semiconductor-based products.

To increase manufacturing capabilities and efficiency by adopting advanced automated equipment, reshoring criticial production processes, and diversifying into new markets.
