The Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) are meant to nurture the interest of the students and fully develop their potential for a research career in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage students to undertake graduate studies in these fields. Students who would like to gain research experience in an academic setting, these awards can provide financial support through the hosting university. NSERC encourages qualified Aboriginal students to apply to this program.

Hire a marketing person to develop and execute data-driven marketing strategies to drive customer acquisition.

Menuiserie Basque et Fils would like to design, manufacture and test a prototype egress window that meets all National Building Code standards. The window would also have to surpass test results for resistance to air and water infiltration, support the necessary structural loads, and have a simple opening mechanism that could be activated without tools during emergency exits.

Development of a proof of concept for the new customer portal integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and operational improvements enhanced by AI tools.

An AI assistant that streamlines SME restaurant operations by automating food orders, reservations, and menu inquiries, reducing staff workload and enhancing customer service efficiency.

There are more market ready sustainable material solutions for replacing plastics than ever before, but these innovative solutions are not making it past the groundbreaking headlines and into actual products. A significant barrier to entry is the fragmented supply chain and disparate knowledge for processing and producing products with biomaterials. Materia is looking to solve that, in part, through a dynamic two-sided marketplace that can intelligently connect product developers from consumer brands to the right suppliers and manufacturers to bring their product to life using sustainable materials. This project centers on taking that marketplace from a concept to a deployed software service available to empower the supply chain.

Develop a first viable prototype of a new geothermal heat pump with new-generation green refrigerants.

This project captures the new product development of a surface dryer machine to improve quality and efficiency of paving operations. The surface dryer machine allows paving contractors to dry moisture on a roadway prior to paving which will extend spring/fall paving seasons, eliminate downtime caused by passing showers and ensure a completely dry surface prior to paving for better adhesion. The project covers complete system development including research, design, prototype build, testing, redesign and modifications.

The project aims to integrate and develop a technical envelope for electromechanical modules that meets thermal, acoustic, and durability (water and fire resistance) performance standards. This solution will enable faster, standardized manufacturing that complies with building requirements. It will optimize energy efficiency and factory productivity. Ultimately, it will strengthen the firm's competitiveness and pave the way for increased industrialization of the modules.

Participation in the Canadian Life Sciences co-innovation mission to Japan – October 6 to 10, 2025. Delegation led by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to explore the Japanese market and to develop international partnerships and potential project ideas under the Japan Program. In Partnership with the Trade Commissioner Service Canadian Technology Accelerator (TCS CTA), and Deep Tech Canada, the Canadian delegation will also receive support for their international business and market-entry strategies, as well as get introductions to other potential partners and clients during the mission.
