The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) Program supports high-calibre Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences at research institutions abroad. By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients will contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian and foreign institutions.

By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients will contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian and foreign institutions.

The objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Utilize knowledge on shared inflammation pathways in intervention trials in humans with the objective of improving prevention or management of inflammation in people living with or at risk of developing chronic conditions.
• Equitably improve health outcomes for population subgroups that have been underrepresented in research (e.g., women, LGBTQIA/2S populations, racialized Canadians, Indigenous Peoples, pregnant people) and those across life stages (e.g., children, older adults) through proven effective evidence-based interventions to address the health effects of inflammation.
• Accelerate the mobilization of knowledge and translation of research outcomes into proven and effective solutions and interventions to benefit multiple chronic conditions through early engagement, sustained and meaningful collaboration with PWLE, KUs, inflammation researchers and researchers from other disciplines.
• Foster a high-quality, interdisciplinary training and mentoring environment to increase capacity and prepare a diverse next generation of leaders to address inflammation in chronic conditions.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:
• To provide recognition and funding to academic health research trainees;
• To provide a reliable supply of highly skilled and qualified researchers.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• to support planning activities, partnership development and to increase understanding of the health research landscape that will contribute to the advancement of research consistent with the mandate of CIHR; and
• to support dissemination events and activities that focus on the communication of health research evidence to the appropriate researcher or knowledge-user audiences, tailoring the message and medium as appropriate.

The specific objective of this funding opportunity is to:

• Provide funding to the host of the 2025 Summer Institute to develop and implement an intensive 5-day capacity-building program in Sex and Gender+ Science in health research.

More specifically, the host of the 2025 Summer Institute in Sex and Gender+ Science will:

• Develop the training program and curriculum for trainees in the area of Sex and Gender+ Science;
• Recruit and lead a planning and coordination team for the 2025 Summer Institute;
• Coordinate and manage the logistics required for successful design and delivery of the 2025 Summer Institute. This includes but is not limited to: recruiting planning and coordination staff; developing the Summer Institute theme and objectives; designing an interactive curriculum with speakers, reading materials, and other learning resources; organizing travel, accommodation, and meals for mentors and instructors attending the Summer Institute, as well as meals for trainees.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• To enhance the application of health promotion approaches to public health emergency preparedness and response in Canada by supporting research aligned with the research opportunities identified in the CPHO’s Generating Knowledge for a Health Promotion Approach document.
• To foster links between health promotion and emergency management researchers, knowledge users and decision-makers to strengthen the capacity for public health systems in Canada to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
• To strengthen research excellence and ensure maximum impact through consideration of equity, diversity and inclusion and Indigenous Rights, where applicable, in study populations, research and knowledge mobilization approaches, research teams and knowledge users.
