After a fire destroyed 90% of the Village of Lytton in 2021, including homes and community services that were relied on by residents of the Village and surrounding areas, the community lost its ability to gather, connect, and share together. Now further to its rebuilding efforts, the Village of Lytton will plan, design and construct a community centre, the Lytton Community Hub, across three properties (420, 400, and 320 Fraser Street, Lytton, BC) to re-establish a gathering and common space for all. By combining Nlaka'pamux traditional building knowledge with modern technologies, the Hub will be certified Net Zero, and house Canada’s first Net Zero Public Pool/ Emergency Reservoir, following FireSmart standards.

The proposed project has two main components to improve long-term water supply and watershed resilience: Replacement of a weir upriver and various flood controls and attenuation projects in mid river. Together, these components will provide both water storage opportunities during the summer and flood relief during the winter, to mitigate the risk of further impacts from climate change and increase the resiliency of critical public infrastructure, as well as homes and livelihoods, particularly in already affected zones.

The building will be constructed to a “Net Zero” ready standard in compliance with the requirements of the Infrastructure Canada – Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program.

This project will support the city's vulnerable populations experiencing substance use issues by expanding outreach services in key areas. The program will provide proactive engagement, harm reduction supplies, and connect individuals to health, housing, and social support services, while also collaborating with local businesses and residents to create safer, more inclusive community spaces. By increasing outreach coverage and fostering partnerships, the program seeks to reduce health risks, enhance safety, and improve outcomes for individuals in need.
