About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Partnership with the STEM sector to break barriers for girls and gender-diverse youth

Through this 20-month systemic change project, The Canadian Association for Girls and Science (CAGIS) will help advance the economic security and prosperity of girls and gender-diverse youth in the Ontario, Prairies, and Pacific Regions. This will be achieved by breaking barriers for them to entering STEM occupations which are among the highest-paid and fastest-growing in the country. The project activities will follow evidence-based methods, focusing on partnership development and training within the STEM sector, applying this knowledge to build opportunities for CAGIS youth, and include follow-up to encourage continued work within CAGIS and beyond.

This project aims to increase the productivity and export readiness of women-led businesses from Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It does so to encourage these businesses to scale up, diversify, and compete regionally and internationally. The project aims to train and provide grants for women-led enterprises to adopt green business practices and technology. It also aims to empower entrepreneurs to identify the most promising markets, including Canada, acquire knowledge and skills to meet technical requirements and participate in trade missions to generate new business opportunities. Project activities include: (1) conducting capacity building activities for adopting green business practices and technology to women-led businesses; (2) providing data collection, mapping, and technical assistance to women-led businesses; and (3) providing grant funding for technology adoption by women-led businesses.
