Grants and Contributions

The objectives of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) are to help all youth navigate through the labour market and to successfully transition into sustained employment. These objectives are attained by supporting the needs of all youth, especially youth facing barriers to develop skills, knowledge and networks through education, skills development and meaningful work experiences.

Engage Grants (EGP) are designed to give innovative companies that operate from a Canadian base access to the unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities available at Canadian universities and colleges. These grants are intended to foster the development of new research partnerships by supporting short-term research and development projects aimed at addressing a company-specific problem; that is, a problem related to the company’s core competencies or activities. The simplified application and decision processes enable university and college researchers to quickly undertake new research collaborations that extend academic expertise to these problems. The mutually beneficial projects are expected to result in economic benefits to the company and to Canada and build impactful longer term collaborations between the applicant and the company.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are key to medical support and care in remote and austere environments. However, they introduce two primary challenges for trust and adoption, which are not adequately addressed in existing autonomous systems because they are not well understood; these include: 1) uncertainty in AI decision models, and 2) the impact of autonomous systems on human-machine interaction as a joint cognitive system (JCS).

This project supports the 2019 16+ Forum, Timor-Leste Annual Showcase, which is a collective undertaking to show case Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies) in action: what implementation looks like, how to go about it, and lessons learned to take forward. Project activities include: (1) organizing the Annual Showcase; and (2) producing a report, which captures the best practices in Sustainable Development Goal 16 implementation and impact, inclusive of challenges, successes and solutions.

This will be accomplished in the following ways:
• Through partnership and joint management of distinctions based investments that will enhance and expand Indigenous ELCC, and support the transfer of ELCC to Indigenous organizations;
• Strengthening foundational supports for Indigenous ELCC through, for example, Indigenous led quality improvement projects; and
• Adapting and improving existing federal programs to be more flexible, adaptable and horizontal across federal departments as a first step prior to transferring control, so that programs cohesively support the goals of the Framework including supporting self determination.

Canada's Fisheries Fund will transform and drive innovation in the fish and seafood sector in Canada with a focus on developing the sector to better meet growing market demands for sustainably sourced, high-quality fish and seafood products.

Creation of a learning environment consisting of online learning modules and preparation of materials for outreach sessions for law students, STEM students, business students and entrepreneurs

This will be accomplished in the following ways:
• Through partnership and joint management of distinctions based investments that will enhance and expand Indigenous ELCC, and support the transfer of ELCC to Indigenous organizations;
• Strengthening foundational supports for Indigenous ELCC through, for example, Indigenous led quality improvement projects; and
• Adapting and improving existing federal programs to be more flexible, adaptable and horizontal across federal departments as a first step prior to transferring control, so that programs cohesively support the goals of the Framework including supporting self determination.

The DarwinAI Data Auditing Project aims to develop a new feature to reduce the manual labour and guesswork required when analyzing deep learning model errors that need to be corrected with training data.
