Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The Way We Speak Together: Enwaaying Training Initiatives

Agreement Number:

ON21765

Duration: from Nov 29, 2021 to Mar 31, 2024
Description:

This 28-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Trent University will achieve this by developing, implementing, and evaluating an Indigenous women-led interactive and experiential training model for leadership and front-line staff that will create awareness of the many ways in which unconscious bias, and the attendant policies and practices, make Indigenous women more vulnerable to gender-based violence.

At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices and by addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality.

Specifically, the project is housed at the First People House of Learning at Trent University, levering relationships with the Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies, the Ontario Native Women’s Association, First Nations and grassroots organizations. They will initiate systemic change by engaging with those who are responsible for existing institutions, policies and practices, and sharing diverse perspectives by which to examine their own role in preventing or perpetuating the crisis of gender-based violence against Indigenous women.
