The Department of Justice Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Canadian Police Association (CPA), is seeking nominations for the 2024 Minister of Justice National Youth Justice Policing Award. The award recognizes police officers or police-led initiatives who develop innovative approaches or promising practices that go beyond the formal court system when dealing with youth in conflict with the law. It celebrates innovative policing, and serves to inform the police and the wider community about creative responses to youth involvement with the criminal justice system.

The Build Your Own Superconducting Quantum Device workshop teaches participants to design, simulate, fabricate, and test superconducting circuits. It includes expert brainstorming, CAD tools, and a day of panels and networking. Participants have four months to design their own device, with awards for the most innovative ideas at a CMC-hosted competition.

This project will support testing of Reaction Dynamics’ in-space propulsion system built to enhance satellite agility. The propulsion system, a 1N Hydrogen Peroxide monopropellant system, promises high density impulse and lower toxicity than current standards.

The demonstration will assess various functionalities and performance, including orbit maintenance, altitude and inclination changes, collision avoidance and re-entry, crucial for space missions. Additionally, it will enable a satellite to quickly and precisely maneuver to support the demonstration of inter-satellite links on the host platform.

Promoting women’s involvement in peacebuilding initiatives and intercultural dialogue in the Ouaké and Bassila communes in northern Benin through training programs in conflict resolution, mediation, intercultural communication and community-awareness campaigns.

Helping to promote peace and social cohesion in Benin by building the capacities of young women committed to peace and security, creating a site called “voices of young people for peace and security,” promoting digital networking and raising awareness online about peace and social cohesion.

Contributing to a peaceful election period in Benin in 2026 through awareness raising by amplifying the voices of women leaders, artists, and religious and traditional chiefs, and building the peace and social cohesion capacities of journalists and young people involved in politics.

Funding will support concept development to identify solutions to National Defence’s Challenge: Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems (CUAS) Concept Development 2024. Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and its defence and security partners are seeking CUAS solutions that can detect and/or defeat Micro and Mini UAS with systems that can be integrated into the broader military command and control systems.

Funding will support research and development to identify solutions to National Defence’s Challenge: Lighting the path with AI: Advanced analytics and decision support for first responders. Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) in collaboration with Canada’s safety & security communities are seeking to advance the application of promising advanced decision support technologies including, but not limited to, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), intelligent sensors, wearable technologies, Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity technologies (e.g. 5G, Long Range (LoRa)), and synthetic environments technologies (e.g. Virtual Reality (VR), Augment Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), Mixed Reality (MR)) in the safety and security domain.
