Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Laue FFNN Prototype
1029958
The goal of this project is to develop a fully-automated product for use in the quality inspection of turbine blades using the X-ray Laue technique. For some time, the missing link in bringing such a product to market has been the intervention of an operator when determining the orientations of the grain(s) being imaged. This project would build upon proof-of-concept examples in the literature, whereby a feed-forward neural network is trained to extract the orientations of one or more crystal grains from a synchrotron Laue image, and apply this approach to the analysis of laboratory Laue images (which are qualitatively lower-resolution).

Advancing Manufacturability and Preparing for Certification of Next-Generation Air-Quality Sensor (AMCS)
1030564
Atmose Ltd. is an Edmonton-based startup pioneering affordable and deployable aerosol technologies for monitoring air quality. Their novel charging discoveries allow for the principles of laboratory instruments to be incorporated into a miniaturized, low-cost, and accessible form, thus overcoming critical challenges in multiple markets. Building upon Atmose’s significant development of its patented sensor (current at TRL 6), the proposed project will further advance the manufacturing process, optimize the design for scalability, increase Atmose’s production capacity and evaluate the sensor in increasingly challenging environments (TRL 7 to 9) to prepare for certifications and customer trials/sales.
