The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, help meet their basic needs and expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. In countries experiencing humanitarian crises, UNICEF fulfills its mandate through humanitarian assistance programming activities outlined under the Humanitarian Action for Children appeal and guided by its Core Commitments for Children.

With GAC’s support, UNICEF provides life-saving health and nutrition interventions for children and pregnant and lactating women to support the treatment, growth, and development of healthy children. Project activities include: (1) providing ready-to-use therapeutic food to treat severe acute malnutrition and child wasting; (2) providing community-based health care services to identify and treat malnutrition; (3) supporting complementary nutrition activities that are essential to deliver effective nutrition programming. This includes ante and post-natal care, infant and young child feeding counselling and support, cash-based interventions for pregnant and lactating women, nutrition supplementation, and deworming and malaria control.

May 2024 - This project seeks to support ALNAP’s 2024-2026 workplan and contribute to the promotion of lessons learned and the dissemination of best practices across the humanitarian sector. With GAC's support and other donors, this project also aims to support ALNAP’s systematic effort to monitor and hold the international humanitarian system accountable for fulfilling its mandate of saving lives, alleviating suffering, and maintaining human dignity.

ALNAP is a global humanitarian network organization that has been the leading voice for the more rigorous application of learning and evaluation processes across the humanitarian sector. Its aim is to provide the humanitarian sector with a forum to address issues of learning and accountability; produce research on shared challenges facing the sector; and improve the performance of the international humanitarian system through evidence and research-based practices.
