Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Development of a lightweight propellant tank for an orbital launch vehicle

Agreement Number:

24STDPU33

Duration: from Aug 7, 2024 to Jul 3, 2026
Description:

Reaction Dynamics will be developing space mobility solutions based around a novel hybrid rocket engine technology, enabling Reaction Dynamics to sell launch services and dedicated orbital transfer vehicles at a fraction of the cost of competitors. The focus of this project is to support this effort by developing and demonstrating a lightweight, large-size composite propellant tank. This project will build on the previous work done on composite pressure vessels, culminating in a full scale experimentally demonstrated design.

Development of Carbon-Neutral fuel for Hybrid Rocket Engine

Agreement Number:

24STDPW13

Duration: from Aug 7, 2024 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

Reaction Dynamics (RDX) is developing a hybrid rocket engine that will power a low cost, eco-friendly, orbital launch vehicle. A key part of this endeavour is the development of a carbon neutral fuel for the rocket engine. The following project has for main goal the selection of a fuel mixture that will maximize performance, while being made of bioderived polymers. Of key interest are determining the thermal, mechanical, and transport properties (specific heat, heat of combustion, thermal conductivity, strength, etc), that are required for best performance in RDX’s engines. Then, working with a bioderived polymer supplier, RDX will manufacture a fuel with net-zero emissions and test it in a demonstrator rocket engine.

4U Integrated Propulsion Unit Demonstration

Agreement Number:

22STDPP06

Duration: from Aug 22, 2024 to Dec 16, 2026
Description:

This project will support testing of Reaction Dynamics’ in-space propulsion system built to enhance satellite agility. The propulsion system, a 1N Hydrogen Peroxide monopropellant system, promises high density impulse and lower toxicity than current standards.

The demonstration will assess various functionalities and performance, including orbit maintenance, altitude and inclination changes, collision avoidance and re-entry, crucial for space missions. Additionally, it will enable a satellite to quickly and precisely maneuver to support the demonstration of inter-satellite links on the host platform.
