Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Modular High-Voltage Battery Packs for Scalable eVTOL Platforms

Agreement Number:

1039180

Duration: from Dec 1, 2025 to Nov 2, 2026
Description:

MOSTAVIO is developing a universal, modular, and high energy density swappable high-voltage battery platform scalable from 50–800 V to power next-generation eVTOL aircrafts. Addressing aviation’s core barrier to electrification, the system delivers safe, energy-dense, certifiable batteries usable across ultralight, emergency-response, and future 2–3 passenger eVTOLs. The project introduces standardized solid-state sub-modules, a reconfigurable distributed BMS, and swappable high-discharge packs. This platform reduces manufacturing waste, extends system life, improves safety, and accelerates the replacement of combustion-based short-range aircraft.

Producing Lignocellulose-based Precursors for HEFA

Agreement Number:

1039195

Duration: from Dec 1, 2025 to Nov 29, 2027
Description:

SixRing’s project involves the conversion of its current product streams (cellulose and a liquid biocrude) into a combined unique stream of molecules that can be used in the established Hydrotreated Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) process for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SixRing’s new research will allow for the use of non-food lignocellulosic biomass for the generation of structurally similar molecules to those used in the HEFA process; which will increase the supply of these molecules and help mitigate the price increases for cooking oils observed globally.
