Grants and Contributions

The President’s Fund grants are intended to:

support organizations and initiatives whose goal is consistent with CIHR’s vision, mandate and strategic directions;
provide financial assistance for events that will increase CIHR’s visibility such as conferences, workshops or other events where the objectives of the event align with the interests of CIHR overall and not individual Institutes;
provide special, one-time grants to support health research activities where the request falls outside of CIHR’s regular funding programs.

The Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research (SRCR), in conjunction with the Panel on Research Ethics (PRE) and the Panel on Responsible Conduct of Research (PRCR), administer a grant program to support events that complement their mandate to promote research ethics and the responsible conduct of research.

The ICS Program is designed to foster community development by providing grants and awards to individuals and organizations for the purposes of:

• Enabling research and knowledge translation activities where the circumstances fall outside of CIHR's current suite of funding programs.

• Supporting individuals and organizations whose goals are consistent with CIHR and its Institutes' vision, mandate and strategic directions.

The ICS Program is not intended to support the direct cost of research (e.g., pilot projects, feasibility studies or operating grants), principal and co-investigator salaries or research equipment.

The objectives of this funding opportunity are to fund new research that will improve health and achieve more equitable outcomes in nutrition, metabolic health and chronic high burden diseases, as well as STBBI, across the life course of diverse groups of people in Canada by:

1. Developing precision medicine approaches to characterize the variability that underlies mechanisms of disease, to prevent, detect and intervene effectively in terms of disease susceptibility, progression, resilience and reversibility, and treatment
2. Increasing our understanding of interactions between structural, social, environmental, and biological determinants of health in Indigenous communities that underlie heterogeneity in health and disease
3. Increasing our understanding of interactions between structural, social, environmental, and biological determinants of health with particular emphasis on a diversity of populations who have historically experienced inequitable outcomes in Canada and at-risk groups that underlie heterogeneity in health and disease

Note that applicants will not be required to meet all the objectives in their respective application, but all objectives will be met through the funding opportunity.
