Grants and Contributions

As a component of Canada’s Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, this funding opportunity shares the same objectives, namely:

• To better prepare Canada to respond to pandemics and other health emergencies; and
• To support an innovative, high growth domestic life sciences sector.

• Accelerate and facilitate dissemination of evidence-based information through an inventory function to provide equitable and inclusive access to research findings to diverse audiences across Canada, promoting health literacy.
• Contribute to the dissemination of the knowledge created by research in areas related to the National Dementia Strategy
• Foster impactful, equitable and accessible uptake of knowledge (including official language considerations) created through research, to inform policy development and/or promote implementation of evidence-based interventions.
• Increase collaborations and create linkages between a diversity of researchers and knowledge users in the brain health and cognitive impairment in aging field, including partners in research (e.g., Indigenous communities), and the public.

The Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research (SRCR), in conjunction with the Panel on Research Ethics (PRE) and the Panel on Responsible Conduct of Research (PRCR), administer a grant program to support events that complement their mandate to promote research ethics and the responsible conduct of research.

• The CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III) will offer funding to support early career researchers (ECR) in the fields of infection and immunity.
• CIHR-III will award multi-year grants to applications that are determined to be specifically relevant to the CIHR-III broad mandate as described below:
o The Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) supports research and helps to build research capacity in the areas of infectious disease and the body's immune system. Through the Institute's programs, researchers address a wide range of health concerns related to infection and immunity including disease mechanisms, disease prevention and treatment, and health promotion through public policy.

Under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (CIHR-INMD) and funded through Budget 2021 as part of the 100 Years of Insulin: Accelerating Canadian Discoveries to Defeat Diabetes initiative, funding will be provided for an application focused on improving psychosocial health and resilience, models of care, and self-management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in youth and young adults (YYA) living with or at risk of T2D in racialized, ethnocultural and low SES communities. Research may include improved prevention and treatment approaches for T2D in YYA in places where YYA live, learn, work and play, using a precision prevention approach and targeting those most at risk of developing T2D. Research must incorporate culturally appropriate approaches to address:
• Prevention, treatment and self-management of T2D, including but not limited to, peer-support groups, mentorship programs, healthy lifestyle and behaviour modification programs and knowledge mobilization;
• Policy and program interventions using a social determinants of health framework that decrease the risks of the development and progression of T2D, including but not limited to, access to healthy food and equitable access to physical activity opportunities; and
• Community-based, family-based, and inter-generational approaches and programs in relation to prevention of T2D.

For the Fall 2023 CIHR Fellowship Priority Announcements, the CIHR Institute of Aging (CIHR-IA) will fund up to three fellowship applications relevant to one of the three main research areas as described in our new Strategic Plan 2023-2028 Reframing Aging Empowering Older Adults:

Strategic Area B: Adapt Health and Care Systems to better address the Needs of Older Adults
