In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

March 2025 – The humanitarian situation in Syria continues to deteriorate due to years of civil war, resulting in displacement, severe protection risks and restricted humanitarian access despite the recent fall of the Assad regime. In Lebanon, the recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah led to severe displacement and exacerbated the worsening socio-economic crisis threatening the ability of most of its population to meet basic needs. According to the United Nations, an estimated 16.5 million people need humanitarian assistance in Syria, with over 7 million internally displaced persons. In Lebanon, 3.7 million people require humanitarian assistance.

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emergency response in Lebanon and Syria contributes to meeting Palestinian refugees’ needs. Project activities include providing emergency assistance, including food, healthcare, water, education and protection services to meet the basic needs of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and Syria.

Raisin River Structure Upgrade

Description:

The proposed project includes the resiliency improvement of a three span CPS culvert bridge structure which was deemed to be in poor structural condition. The culverts cross the South Branch of the Raisin River at McConnell Ave, which is a main arterial road adjacent to the 401 highway. The plan is to replace/improve the three combined corrugated steel pipes (CSP) that make up this structure with a single CON/SPAN concrete culvert. The goal is mitigate the risk of flooding in the area by improving the structural resiliency to stand up to the increase of severe weather events that Canada is experiencing(1). Galvanized CSP culverts are estimated to have a service life of up to 50 years(2) but a study from the Geotechnical Service Unit, Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation evaluated results show that 10% of CSP culverts between the ages of 10-14 years old showed signs of being serious corrosion(3). Encouraging Active Transportation Through Last-Mile Services for Sheridan College, Ontario

The project will enhance 180m of the McLaughlin Road entrance sidewalk to a 3m wide multi-use trail will provide cyclists with a safer, protected entrance to campus that is not shared with bus transit routes. These measures will create safe and seamless active transportation connections throughout the campus.
