This project will enable SFU VentureLabs to facilitate the provision of strategic, one-to-one Level 1 (L1) - IP Awareness sessions, and development of a Level 1 (L2) comprehensive IP strategy for IRAP SMEs, in order to increase their business success and to increase IP capabilities in Canada.

This IRAP project will advance an integrated LED lighting and IoT greenhouse control system from TRL 6 to TRL 8 through pilot-scale validation in a 30-acre bell pepper greenhouse. It will prototype energy-efficient, tunable-spectrum LEDs delivering 25 mol/m²/day DLI at =620?W per fixture, integrate real-time IoT and AI-based control for spectral tuning and crop monitoring, reduce energy use and labor, increase yield from 30 to =34?kg/m²/year, and validate a modular, scalable system. A techno-economic analysis will quantify ROI based on measured energy, yield, and labor savings.

This project aims to optimize water management for a 30-acre bell pepper facility. It includes a full baseline assessment of physical, chemical, and microbiological water quality in storage ponds, development of a control algorithm to blend multiple water sources, and engineering of a modular ultrafiltration (UF) system to reduce turbidity and suspended solids for irrigation and fertigation use. Water–nutrient interactions and corrosion are monitored to protect equipment integrity, while an IoT-based platform enables real-time data logging and automated corrective actions. A techno-economic model is developed to validate reductions in operational water sourcing costs.

JAZZ Solar Solutions Inc. is developing Moose AI, an intelligent solar asset monitoring and analytics platform designed to improve the performance and reliability of distributed solar and hybrid energy systems. The project will advance AI capabilities to enable predictive maintenance, improve energy generation, and reduce operating costs.
