Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Achieving Net-Zero, Zero Waste to Landfill: Building a Lean, Clean & Scalable Waste Diversion Model
1032150
Rethink Resource is developing a scalable Net-Zero Zero Waste to Landfill Diversion operational model designed to help Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) businesses achieve 100% waste diversion from landfills, while maintaining carbon neutrality or achieving net-negative emissions. The project also aims to maximize waste sorting efficiencies while reducing the overall costs of waste diversion services for clients.

ARP - Development of high-precision portable technology for repairing diesel engine blocks on ships at sea
1032184
In the maritime industry, most large ships (merchant ships, cruise ships, etc.) use marine diesel engines, which often require complex and costly dismantling for regular maintenance. These engines are subject to erosion (e.g., cavitation) caused by high temperatures and vibrations, leading to leaks and internal damage.

Expansion of Clinical Trial (CT) Services to Include Consumer Product and Cosmetic Efficacy Testing
1032288
The project aims to expand existing research capabilities to include additional cosmetic efficacy testing services and associated supporting quality assurance processes. Associated internal research and development processes will be undertaken to generate the knowledge necessary to support these additional operational needs while meeting international research standards. This infrastructure development positions the organization to market additional clinical trial services, hire additional personnel, provide additional cosmetic research opportunities to the citizens of Winnipeg, and complete planning expansions to integrate new service offerings into business development portfolios.

ML Researcher
1032366
The project aims to develop an automated machine learning (AutoML) pipeline to accelerate the development of surrogate models for predicting materials properties. Working with tabular data linking composition of an alloy to material properties, the intern will design tools for data curation, composition-based featurization, feature space reduction, and output transformation. A core outcome will be a modular library of ML models and an AutoML system that selects optimal pipelines based on data characteristics. A final pipeline will include the implementation of the AutoML workflows in a probabilistic framework suitable for integration with a Bayesian optimization engine, supporting faster and more accurate materials design.

YOUTH-Conversion of waste materials into sustainable composites that sequester fossil carbon and reduce GHGs in a circular economy.
1032584
The main objective is to establish the foundations for a simple and efficient mixed waste conditioning chain and to validate the key factors enabling the large-scale implementation of the waste-to-sustainable composite conversion process in a transferable technology model (exportable to different regions of Canada and elsewhere in the world).
