This project will combine Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit with groundwater and permafrost science to better understand how climate change is altering winter groundwater movement and the occurrence of groundwater springs near Inuit communities in Nunavut.

This project will support the Nunatsiavut Government’s seasonal Science Camps by providing Inuit youth with hands-on opportunities to learn about scientific research, climate change, and career pathways in science through direct engagement with researchers and knowledge holders.

This project will develop an Indigenous-led community-based research toolkit to help Indigenous communities in the Northwest Territories plan, conduct, and use health and wellness research in ways that reflect local priorities, cultural protocols, and Indigenous data sovereignty principles.

This project will strengthen community engagement and support the development of a new Inuit-led research station in Mittimatalik by bringing together community members, local organizations, and researchers to identify scientific priorities, infrastructure needs, and opportunities for local employment and training. By combining long-term ecological research with Indigenous knowledge, including studies on ravens, waste management, and environmental contaminants, the project will promote community-driven research and accessible knowledge sharing through collaborations with local artists.

This project will examine how wildlife use and respond to the Old Crow Winter Road and other linear corridors in the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Traditional Territory, where climate change and past resource development have altered important habitats. Through a community-led monitoring program using motion-activated cameras, the Teechik Guardians are collecting data on the movements of caribou, moose, wolves, bears, and other species to better understand how these corridors influence predator-prey interactions and wildlife behaviour.

The funding received will be distributed to eligible students to help offset the high costs of conducting research in the north.
