Through this 36-month project, Intersex Canada will strengthen the capacity of the intersex community in Canada and network with broader 2SLGBTQ organizations to advance human rights and equality for intersex people. Intersex Canada’s internal capacity will be strengthened through training for the organization’s leadership, developing a strategic plan, and developing a sustainability plan to address the organization’s capacity to be financially sustainable. The project will address the general lack of visibility of intersex in the 2SLGBTQ+ community and the general public. Key project activities will highlight the needs and advance the rights of intersex individuals, respect for body autonomy, recognition and bring to light the harmful practices done on intersex bodies. The organization will develop an advocacy plan to engage with health care providers to address intersex issues, convene intersex individuals to share lived experiences, engage with other organizations through conferences and develop educational and awareness raising materials to be shared in an online informational hub.

With the proposed supplemental funding and extension in early 2026, Intersex Canada will implement new capacity building activities to strengthen the organization’s reach and impact. These include developing bilingual patient and client resources, strengthening the capacity of board members, staff, and volunteers through a revised, customized training series, establishing a youth advisory board, and developing intersex healthcare training, mentorship, and French-language tools and resources for providers. Together, these activities will further advance Gender Equality by improving capacity, access to inclusive resources, and support for intersex people and their families across Canada.

Strengthening the capacities of 5 human rights, women´s organizations and platforms in decision making and advocating for legislation, budgeting and public policy with a gender focus in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa / Comayagua, Honduras.

Empowering 130 adolescents from Barrio Pantanal- Granada, Nicaragua on topics and skills on sexual and reproductive health rights, gender equality and leadership through a virtual intervention on the JovenSalud.net platform.

Enhance capabilities of women, girls, and LGBTIQ+ individuals through activist camp to give participants the tools they need to step up their engagement and collaboration in the fight against gender inequality; radio talk shows, online campaigns and physical event at sensitizing the general public on women and LGBTIQ+ rights and encouraging them to challenge these damaging cultural and social norms in order to create the necessary conditions for change and to claim their rights in Cambodia.

Strengthening agro-forestry coffee systems through a reforestation and training program, baseline data collection and analysis for 120 cooperative members in 9 communities in San Juan del Río Coco, Nicaragua for the implementation of environmental services such as carbon capture.

Contribution as part of the Participant Funding Program to Norway House Cree Nation to assist in preparing for and engaging in Indigenous consultation activities and public participation opportunities associated with the assessment process for the Lake Manitoba and Lake St.
