Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Description:

This project entitled ""Next Generation TriDAR"" will focus on the creation of a next-generation TriDAR platform. TriDAR is a 3D sensor used to perform autonomous rendezvous and docking in space. This project aims to reduce the TriDAR products mass, volume and power consumption in order to broaden the range of applicable missions. The project will also improve the system's data acquisition and scan speed performance, add cooperative tracking capability, evaluate and test solid state beam steering detector and technologies, and demonstrate the feasibility of hybrid 3D sensing.

Description:

This project entitled ""A novel nano-filtration technology for aerospace applications"" is to design, build and test high-performance and durable nano-filters to be used in the aerospace industry. These nano-filters would serve in the filtration of fluid system protection in engine lube, engine fuel, coolant, radar cooling systems and odor/bacteria/virus removal from water and air. The proposed nano-filters are mass-producible, bio-compatible and can be assembled into any shape and size. The filters are suitable for harsh environments where high or low temperatures, high pressures or vacuum, high levels of radiation and wide range of pH define the quality of the surroundings. The proposed nano-filtration technology is a major improvement from existing filters. They are thinner, lighter, have an increased permeability and can be customized according to its applications.

Description:

This project entitled ""Wide-Swath, 10m Resolution Hyperspectral Sensor and Mission"" will explore the feasibility of using novel optical filter and detector technology in a spaceborne hyperspectral sensor that would be compact enough to fly on a small satellite while still delivering operationally superior sensitivity, coverage, and spatial and spectral resolution. Such smaller, cheaper hyperspectral satellites can be deployed in constellations that provide continental-scale imaging coverage every few days, which is critical for such applications as agriculture and defence.
