Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Methods and Algorithms for Unsupervised Domain Adaptation

Agreement Number:

972620

Duration: from Aug 21, 2023 to Sep 30, 2022
Description:

Even in the era of big data, many domains may still suffer from lack of high quality labeled data for machine learning. Thus, zero-shot transfer learning is particularly important, which explores methodologies to transfer models learned from a supervision-rich domain to a domain with no properly labeled training data. In this project, we will focus on zero-shot transfer learning for sophisticated models and from a supervision-rich domain to a domain whose relationship is even unknown.

Software Enhanced 5-Axis CNC Machines for Advanced Applications

Agreement Number:

947970

Duration: from Apr 1, 2020 to Apr 30, 2021
Description:

The developed 5 axis machines would become a new product line of machines purpose-built for 5-axis cutting operations.

By way of background, CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) machines involve taking digitized data, a computer and CAM program is used to control, automate, and monitor the movements of a machine. Our CNC router machines are 3 axis and cut with a physical tool a wide range of materials including wood, plastics, metals, foam, and other materials. 5 axis adds the ability to tilt and rotate the router tool to a greater extent.
