The CIHR Institute of Cancer Research (CIHR-ICR) has a mandate to support research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatments, psycho-social support systems, and palliation.
This PA will fund Breast Cancer research in the following priority areas:
• General Breast Cancer Research
o research that supports CIHR-ICR’s mandate in the area of Breast Cancer.
• Breast Cancer Prevention and/or Early Detection of Breast Cancer
o research that prevents the onset of breast cancer (lowers cancer risk) and/or reduces the severity of the disease through early detection when it is at its most treatable.
• Breast Cancer Survivorship
o research that mitigates the challenges experienced along the breast cancer survivorship journey and improves the health outcomes for breast cancer survivors of all ages after cancer treatment ends.
o specifically in the areas of:
¿ Late and long-term effects of cancer treatment
¿ Survivors’ experiences and outcomes
¿ Models of care for cancer survivorship
o This PA will not fund research focused on improving end-of-life care.
• This PA supports research that creates new knowledge and/or moves it into practice in the health system, communities, workplaces, and in the daily lives of Canadians.

The Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies (CRPPHE) is housed at CIHR with a mandate to grow Canada's research leadership in preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery from pandemics and public health emergencies, including by building and supporting Canadian research capacity in the field.

CRPPHE will offer funding for bridge grants to research projects that are aligned with the CRPPHE goal and objectives and the CRPPHE Interim Investment Plan 2023-2025, and that have a primary research objective related to preparing for and/or responding to existing and future pandemics and other health emergencies*.

*For the purpose of this Priority Announcement, a health emergency is defined as:

A present or imminent event or phenomenon, of a temporary, acute nature, with actual or potential significant negative impacts on human health, resulting in:
• A serious disruption of the functioning of a community; and/or
• The declaration of a state of emergency by a municipal, provincial/territorial, federal and/or Indigenous government, or international organization with a health research mandate, and that;
• Requires prompt research action to protect and strengthen human health.

The Food Security and Climate Change in the Canadian North Initiative supports research focused on broadening our understanding of food security and climate change within the Canadian North and northern communities.

Research areas include but are not limited to:
• Climate change, climate adaptation, the environment and food systems
• Food sovereignty and food governance related to Indigenous Peoples as rights holders, climate change and food security
• Research and monitoring methodologies related to climate change and food security
• Health, wellness, and nutritional status related to climate change and food security
• Approaches, programs and policies to address food insecurity and climate change

The mission of the CIHR-Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) is to improve the health of populations and promote health equity in Canada and globally through research and its application to policies, programs, and practice in public health and other sectors.

The CIHR Institute for Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) will fund applications that are relevant to their mandate, relevant to CIHR’s definition of population health research (pillar 4 research), focused on meaningfully improving equitable health1 outcomes and aligned with one or more of the following IPPH strategic research areas:
• Global Public Health: applications with a primary focus on “global health research” (as per CIHR’s definition) that improves global health equity for all.
• Moving Upstream (structural determinants of health): applications with a primary focus on interdisciplinary research into the structural determinants of health to meaningfully address the root causes and systems that create health inequities in Canada and globally.

The CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA) will fund applications that are determined relevant to its mandate and research priority areas as described below:

• Oral Health: research that demonstrates alignment with the National Oral Health Research Strategy
• IMHA General Mandate
