About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

December 2023 - During conflicts, natural disasters and other complex emergencies, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs must not be overlooked. It is essential to ensure that life-saving interventions related to SRH services and protection from and response to sexual and gender-based violence are provided.
With GAC’s support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Fund is contributing to meeting the safety and sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls in Haiti. Project activities include: (1) ensuring protection from and response to gender-based violence; (2) providing emergency obstetric care, and sexual and reproductive health services; and (3) providing health services, medication, dignity, and reproductive health kits to crisis-affected people.

Darfur Community-Led Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding

This 18-month project aims to reduce conflict related violence experienced by civilians, particularly women and girls in Darfur, Sudan. Project activities include: (1) training civil society groups to document and share information on violence and human rights abuses through an early warning network; (2) training local peace committees on crisis response and conflict mitigation strategies; (3) training civil society members on trauma awareness, psychological first aid (PSA), coping mechanisms for high-stress or triggering situations, and basic mental health psychosocial support (MHPSS); (4) supporting civil society groups to carryout social cohesion sensitizations and activities; and (5) training civil society members on mediation and equipping peace committees with income generating activities (IGA) skills and economic resources to sustain peacebuilding efforts. The project’s direct beneficiaries include 96 Peace Committee members. The project targets 50% of members to be women and displaced populations (local and internal) of the 6 communities in North and South Darfur benefiting from improved security and information sharing through the early warning network.
