The Travel Awards Funding Opportunity is expected:
• To provide travel funds to individuals in aid of research and knowledge translation activities consistent with the CIHR Initiative’s priorities or CIHR Institutes’ vision, mandate and strategic directions. In addition to this overarching objective, each participating Institute/Initiative has their own relevant Research Areas.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

1. Promote research independence and academic research career readiness of highly qualified post-doctoral researchers, clinicians and PhD-holding research associates belonging to specific underrepresented groups;
2. Increase the number of funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups conducting excellent research who secure their first independent research faculty position in a Canadian academic, health system or research institution; and
3. Provide funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups with early career support to enhance their probability of future success in obtaining independent research funding and launching successful research faculty careers in Canada that will contribute to the creation and/or use of health-related knowledge to improve the health of Canadians.

• build relationships among researchers, PWLE, communities, health care professionals and others with a view to developing inclusive, equitable and culturally safe iCTs;
• mobilize research collaborations aimed at identifying priorities for iCT research; and,
• develop new and transformative methods relevant to iCTs, with the potential to generate high impact results.

This Embedded ECR Award aims to advance the overall objectives of the HSI program. Additionally, this funding opportunity specifically aims to:

1. Support ECRs as they develop embedded research roles and programs that advance the methods of embedded research, build embedded research capacity within health system organizations and mentor emerging embedded researchers, and generate evidence-informed solutions for high-priority challenges within health system organizations.
2. Contribute to building a strong cadre of embedded researchers across the country that will play a role in transformative health system improvement that advances the Quadruple Aim and health equity.
3. Support the development of career pathways for a diverse cadre of embedded researchers within Canada’s health system.

The Vanier CGS program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health; as well as leadership skills.

This is a directed grant to the Health System Impact Fellowship (HSIF) National Cohort Training Program (NCTP). This directed grant would be for $100,000 total over two fiscal years, provided as a $75,000 supplement in fiscal years 2023-24 and $25,000 in 2024-25. It serves as additional resources to enable the NCTP program host to:
• incorporate the first cohort of 12 recipients of the Health System Impact Embedded Early Career Researcher Award into the NCTP;
• revise the NCTP’s training and curriculum to reflect the enriched core competency framework anticipated to be released in Fall 2023; and
• implement formal evaluation and impact assessment strategies to evaluate the program’s outcomes and impacts.
