The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) has the broad mandate of supporting research on the heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood, blood vessels, critical and intensive care, and sleep.
This Priority Announcement is focused on conditions of the lung and the respiratory system across the lifespan.
• The proposed research should focus on understanding, preventing, diagnosing and/or treating respiratory diseases and conditions that affect individuals at different stages of life.
• Research focusing on more than one (1) developmental or intergenerational period over the lifespan is encouraged. Examples include, but are not limited to:
o one developmental period before and after age 18, or
o different developmental periods across generations (e.g. biological parent and fetus or offspring), or
o two (2) developmental periods in females related to puberty, child-bearing age and menopause.
• Sex and gender consideration should be integrated as appropriate.
For the purpose of this Priority Announcement:
• Respiratory diseases include, but are not limited to asthma, smoking and/or vaping, exercise-induced respiratory issues, COPD, and occupational lung disease.

The CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (CIHR-IHSPR) will provide funding for applications that are relevant to the Institute’s mandate, CIHR’s definition of health services research (Pillar 3) and one or more of the following prioritized topics:

1. Innovations in how to organize, finance, manage and deliver health care that achieve the Quadruple Aim, improve equity, and are accountable to patients and the public in the following areas:
   ¿ Integration of care (including integrated delivery systems, continuity of care, and/or integration of upstream prevention approaches within health care delivery settings that address the social determinants of health);
   ¿ Primary care (in the context of health care delivery), and home, community, and long-term care.
   ¿ The health care workforce (including, funding and remuneration, training and support, such as leadership training incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion, scopes of practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and data systems for planning).
2. Implementation, evaluation and/or scale and spread of digital health solutions that aim to support a strong digital health ecosystem in Canada and to improve health and patient/provider experience outcomes. Examples of such solutions may include virtual care technologies (e.g., e-referral, e-consult, remote monitoring solutions) and system-level solutions/frameworks for data sharing, data governance structures, interoperability of health data and information systems and patient-centric health information architectures that enhance access of patient data to patients themselves and their providers.
3. Designing, implementing and/or evaluating equitable, accessible, anti-ableist, anti-racist, anti-discriminatory, diverse and/or inclusive health care delivery systems and/or service delivery models that advance the Quadruple Aim and health equity for all;
4. Advancing sustainable, climate-resilient and/or low-carbon health care systems, organizations, and service delivery models.
5. Advancing the theories, methods and approaches that underpin the science of HSPR, including theoretical and conceptual framework development, methodological improvements, measurement tool validation, and the development of indicators for HSPR excellence and broader impact. The primary focus of the research is on learning about and/or testing theories, methods and approaches and their broad applicability in health services and policy research.

The CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (CIHR-INMD) will provide funding for applications in which the objectives and aims are determined to be largely and directly relevant to the INMD mandate as described below:
• CIHR-INMD supports research to enhance health in relation to diet, digestion, excretion, and metabolism; and to address causes, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation for a wide range of conditions and problems associated with hormone, digestive system, kidney, and liver.

The CIHR HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections (STBBI) Research Initiative, under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III), defines STBBI as infections that are transmitted primarily through exchange of body fluids during sexual contact and/or through blood, and supports projects with a primary focus on STBBI of public health relevance, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human papillomavirus. This funding is provided across all CIHR research themes: biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social, cultural, environmental and population health research.

Research that focuses on key populations disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS and STBBI is highly encouraged.

In alignment with CIHR's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the research system, the Research Initiative champions EDI as a means to support excellence in research, training and knowledge mobilization. Therefore, we encourage people from diverse backgrounds, including groups underrepresented in science such as women and racial and ethnic minorities, to apply.

This Priority Announcement will prioritize funding for research on HIV/AIDS and/or STBBI aligned with the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative: Strategic Plan (2022-2027) in the following research areas:

• Improving health equity by advancing research to understand and address determinants of health, new models of care, or sexual and reproductive health for people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and STBBI; or
• Accelerating discovery and innovation by advancing research on innovative technologies for testing and surveillance, interactions among infections and co-morbidities, or design and development of next-generation interventions.

The CIHR Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (CIHR-INMHA) will fund an application that is determined to be relevant to their mandate and research priority areas:

• INMHA supports research to enhance mental health, neurological health, vision, hearing, and cognitive functioning and to reduce the burden of related disorders through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation.

The mission of the CIHR-Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) is to improve the health of populations and promote health equity in Canada and globally through research and its application to policies, programs, and practice in public health and other sectors.

The CIHR Institute for Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) will fund applications that are relevant to their mandate, relevant to CIHR’s definition of population health research (pillar 4 research), focused on meaningfully improving equitable health1 outcomes and aligned with one or more of the following IPPH strategic research areas:
• Global Public Health: applications with a primary focus on “global health research” (as per CIHR’s definition) that improves global health equity for all.
• Moving Upstream (structural determinants of health): applications with a primary focus on interdisciplinary research into the structural determinants of health to meaningfully address the root causes and systems that create health inequities in Canada and globally.

Under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (CIHR-INMD) and funded through Budget 2021 as part of the 100 Years of Insulin: Accelerating Canadian Discoveries to Defeat Diabetes initiative, funding will be provided for an application focused on improving health and resilience, models of care, and self-management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in youth and young adults (YYA) living with or at risk of T2D that are disproportionally impacted, such as in Indigenous communities or in racialized, ethnocultural and low SES communities. Research may include improved prevention and treatment approaches for T2D in YYA in places where YYA live, learn, work and play, targeting those most at risk of developing T2D. Research must incorporate culturally appropriate approaches.

The CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA) will fund applications that are determined relevant to its mandate and research priority areas as described below:

• Oral Health: research that demonstrates alignment with the National Oral Health Research Strategy
• IMHA General Mandate

The purpose of this funding is to support Northwatch’s participation in the CNSC's Environmental Non-Governmental Organization Forum.

This project includes providing individual counselling, public education, and outreach activities tailored to those impacted by sexual misconduct. To maximize accessibility, programming will be delivered through a wide range of formats including in-person, phone, virtual, and direct outreach. This centre will leverage its expertise and knowledge regarding sexual violence to educate, support, liaise and advocate for those harmed and impacted by sexual misconduct. They also provide services in English and French.
