About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Gaza – United Nations Relief and Work Agency - Interagency Flash Appeal - 2023

October 2023 – In response to urgent and growing humanitarian needs in Gaza, the West Bank and neighbouring areas, Global Affairs Canada is contributing to the Interagency Flash Appeal, launched on 12 October, with new humanitarian funding allocations.
With the support of GAC and other donors, the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) provides critical humanitarian assistance supporting the Interagency Flash Appeal. Project activities include: (1) providing basic food commodities and water; (2) providing essential non-food items such as blankets, mattresses and hygiene kits; (3) providing primary healthcare in emergency shelters; (4) maintaining UNRWA shelters, including installation of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, to provide essential protection for displaced persons; and (5) accounting for persons with special needs in emergency response including children, women, elderly and pregnant and lactating women.

This project aims to enhance climate resilience and food security of vulnerable indigenous and rural populations - focusing on women, girls and youth - in the Colombian Amazonian region. Project activities include: (1) using nature-based solutions and climate information services integrating traditional knowledge and practices to empower local communities to adapt effectively to climate variability and extreme weather; (2) fostering sustainable agricultural practices and food systems, aiming to enhance the communities' ability to achieve long-term resilience; and (3) strengthening the leadership of women to participate in climate governance and decision-making spaces.
