Grants and Contributions

A supplement of $149,570 was granted to develop a comprehensive cross-Canada coordinated childcare advocacy strategy, as well as a supporting implementation plan, to ensure equitable access to high quality and inclusive early learning and childcare.

The project will build and enhance partnerships with the Systems Sanctuary, McConnell Foundation, and Sacred Earth Solar to increase peer support and collaboration for 100 women across seven cohorts for shared learning and action. One cohort will be exclusively BIPOC leaders on the frontline of the climate movement.

The End FGM Canada Network will address knowledge gaps in medical, education, and child protection areas, by creating interactive learning modules in both official languages through partnering with key individuals knowledgeable on female genital mutilation/cutting.

Specifically, the project is housed at the First People House of Learning at Trent University, levering relationships with the Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies, the Ontario Native Women’s Association, First Nations and grassroots organizations.

At the completion of the project, a final report will be produced that includes the results achieved, lessons learned, recommendations and conclusions.

At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, and increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change to support women’s equality.

At the end of the project, EIWFSC will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on peer-to-peer learning and leadership development in Indigenous men and youth.

This will be achieved by recruiting and training the Host Family (Board of Directors), developing and implementing a strategic plan, building networks and partnerships with the local 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, organizing and delivering a 2Spirit/Indigequeer Symposium as part of a baseline community needs/medicines assessment, and sharing the learning with other organizations.

This project will engage with local Indigenous/2Spirit/Indigequeer groups, Indigenous Elders and youth, and knowledge keepers to organize and deliver a Coastal 2Spirit/Indigequeer Symposium and develop Coastal 2Spirit/Indigequeer resources.

The project will widely share community informed learnings to support the development and implementation of stronger intersectional policies related to childcare, leading to lasting systemic change for gender equity and economic security.

The supplemental funding will be used to hire an online e-learning specialist to adapt the logic model and theory of practice into an online blended digital model; to hire a part-time administrator to support the management of transfer to an online model; to hire a financial strategist and expert with donors and grants to assist the Board of Director and Executive Director in creating a sustainability and retention plan; and to create a series of videos on primary prevention and consent.
