Project activities include: (1) identification of promising jobs, training programs to be reviewed or developed and skills to be sought according to the needs of the labour market; (2) review or development and implementation, in collaboration with employers, of training programs; (3) technical and financial support for those involved in professional integration, to employers and for the creation of green businesses; (4) provision of scholarships, learning kits and adequate facilities to learners.

Although it is too early to predict the trajectory of this outbreak, there are concerns regarding the containment and prevention of the virus as it has spread from three rural health zones to the provincial capital of Mbandaka, a large urban centre with national and international transportation routes, increasing the risk of it spreading further within the DRC and neighbouring countries. Based on lessons learned from the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak, an early response is required to help mitigate and contain the spread.

The educational program uses cartoons to teach children peace education and social-emotional learning. It seeks to instill positive values in kindergarten to grade three students during their most formative years of development by promoting foundational elements for peace, such as the rule of law, gender equality, non-violence, empathy, and critical thinking.

Project activities include: (1) training key national and regional stakeholders in climate finance, including gender mainstreaming, youth inclusiveness and the health-climate nexus; (2) strengthening climate-related policies, programmes and initiatives; (3) developing and submitting climate adaptation and mitigation project proposals for funding; and (4) developing and sharing training manuals, methodologies and approaches, good practices, and lessons learned on climate finance projects and policy development.

The project aims to support the financing, capacity-building and learning necessary for gender-responsive, nature-based solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss.

The project is comprised of three components: foundations for learning; advancing gender equality through civil society; and advancing Canadian champions for development.

To do so, the project will research existing resources; verify current needs via community engagement; design and develop best practices curriculum to address identified barriers; recruit project cohorts of target population-led start-ups; deliver cohort education programs; evaluate programs on an ongoing basis; showcase the progress by hosting a public cohort graduation; report on the impact of the project; and share the curriculum and learnings with the broader network of sexual assault centres in Ontario and other organizations who are looking for pathways to economic prosperity work with the target population.

The scaling will also deepen the learning so volunteers will have a better understanding of how to integrate trauma and gender awareness into the work they do.

A reproductive justice learning exchange hub will be established to share research findings, resources, and advocacy tools.

In Phase 2 of the project, a series of online workshops will be developed to deepen the learning facilitated through the “Restoring the Circle” training module.
