Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Manitoba First Nations Reaching Home
Reaching Home aims to prevent and reduce homelessness across Canada. This is accomplished by mobilizing partners at the federal, provincial/territorial and community levels, as well as the private and voluntary sectors, and other stakeholders, to address barriers to well-being faced by those who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness.

Terahertz detection for 6G wireless technologies
1014654
Building on the successful demonstration of a compact and low-cost terahertz (THz) spectrometer capable of generating and detecting frequencies from 0.3 to 6 THz, this project will combine this small footprint configuration with a recently demonstrated sensitive THz detection technique based on nonlinear optics, spectral filtering and single-photon detection. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate an ultra-sensitive photonics?based wireless receiver that operates at frequencies above 0.3 THz to enable short- to medium-range 6G communication speeds and beyond. Patterned phase gratings on nonlinear crystals will be incorporated into the design of the detection system, maximizing the collection efficiency of the THz radiation. A demonstrator of a sensitive and compact THz receiver is anticipated to take place at the end of this project. Additionally, with the University of Ottawa’s industry partner, the project will determine how to most efficiently take this technology to market

Development of high voltage cathode materials based on layered oxides and spinels
1015693
Development of high voltage cathode materials based on layered oxides and spinels Project Description Summary: The project will develop new high voltage cathode materials above 4V that contain Ni as the main element to identify a new chemistry for a cathode material produced for industry relevant validation (gram → kilogram), and identify, synthesize and preliminary test LiNi1-xMxO2 cathode materials with single and multi “M” dopants: • Gram-scale synthesis, electrochemical techniques, advanced structural materials characterization and preliminary battery performance to understand the materials structure/property/performance relationships. • Choose materials using MAP and density functional theory modeling, preliminarily predict the most plausible material chemistry and structure for next steps, and evaluate the new materials feasibility for scalability and potential market penetration. • Validate results using advanced and operando electrochemical techniques and scale up materials synthesis gram → kilogram. • Investigate up to three battery chemistry generations with a feedback loop based on the above analysis, material characterization and battery performance and modify materials coating with protective layers and enhanced electrolyte formulations
