Platform automation through implementation and integration of new and emerging Articial Intelligence technologies to allow the business to scale efficiently by reducing customer support and service costs, automating media classification and curation, automating product generation and radically improving product merchandising and revenue potential.

NORCAT will provide support and facility access to approximately 8 (4 in FY 23/24 & 4 in FY24/25) SMEs looking to develop, test, commercialize and/or demonstrate new technologies for the underground mining industry. The NORCAT Underground Centre and support services/programs will be used for this initiative.

This project will also support a marketing and awareness effort by the NORCAT Underground Centre aimed at increasing the total yearly number of SMEs utilizing the facility and services.

This project will develop innovative new products and research and design a state-of-the-art processing line to produce new premium-quality jams, jellies, savory sauces, and baked goods.

Development of software that intelligently gathers forecast model configuration requirements then automatically builds or applies changes to Excel-based forecasting models. The solution will be delivered as an Excel add-in or as part of the Scarsin forecasting platform, and includes a series of user tools that maximize forecaster efficiency.

This project is focusing on the R&D of a real-time sanitary sewer capacity management system. The results of this project will be tested on an urban sewer-shed undergoing monitoring and capacity management activities related to growth.

The project will collect and process the data required for developing an online annotation system for dairy cows. Despite the demand in the agriculture market, no online annotation system is available for dairy cows. Developing such a system requires collecting thousands of images from the animal with variety of poses to train and improve the accuracy of the results. The image pre and post processing, manual and semi automated labelling and ML application will be the following major steps. The online annotation system will benefit the researchers, dairy industry and academia whom are in need of the service.

The successful completion of the gas turbine optimization and monitoring model will grant the University of Calgary a perpetual license to use the developed model. VL Energy and the University will also collaborate in Energy Transition Centre and other relevant initiatives, promoting joint participation and impact. Overall, the project aims to contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world by building the Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) that optimizes gas turbine operations, supports environmental compliance, enhances operational efficiency, and fosters collaboration between VL Energy and the University of Calgary.

Newly patented technology to accurately provide stiffness information and pipe-wall condition with a resolution of a few meters for in-service concrete pressure pipes using non-invasive dynamic response testing techniques.

As part of the international consortium project “DLEIX: CANDLE lithium Corporation-pilot production of lithium selective sorbents”, this project will focus on the following: CANDLE Lithium Corporation (CANDLE) has developed a patent pending process to isolate Li from a variety of brines including Li-bearing oilfield brines found in Alberta. The lithium product can be then used in batteries, after a series of polishing and crystallization. The process benefits from a highly selective ion exchange material which has been developed by CANDLE. In a joint effort with our manufacturing partner, CANDLE seeks to manufacture this material at commercial scale and use it in its lithium extraction projects.

Create a self-serve quick setup for our Scream Utility SaaS solution such that a new customer can get up and running with a customized mobile app and sample data in about an hour with online tools to set up and monitor self-serve integration for billing and metering data.
In collaboration with our utility partners, we have developed a polished, hosted utility mobile app and web access solution. With this project, we prepare to mass-market our solution as a true Software as a Service (SaaS) solution requiring minimal professional services from our company to roll-out an implementation. This project advances our product goals to minimize overall cost and maximize utility self-management of our solution.
