This grant provides Canada’s institutional support to Grand Challenges Canada (GCC). GCC pools this funding with contributions from other donors to carry out its mission. GCC's mission is to 1) support innovators to develop, test and scale innovations, and 2) enable resources to flow at scale by investing in systems-level initiatives, to improve the health, wellbeing and survival among unserved and underserved populations, with an emphasis on women and girls, in countries eligible for Official Development Assistance, including those affected by conflict.

Project activities include rapid damage assessments, rehabilitation of forest nurseries to drive seedling production, restoration of degraded forest areas using climate-resilient approaches, strengthening climate and gender-responsive monitoring systems, and provision of recovery grants to re-establish community livelihoods.

This project, P017133, aims to support Convergence to strengthen and scale the global blended finance ecosystem for increased mobilized private capital towards sustainable development and poverty reduction in emerging markets and developing economies. It will do so through supporting enhanced data transparency and benchmarking activities, expand capacity building activities, ensure regional representation, and strengthen policy engagement and thought leadership on blended finance. In turn, these activities will contribute to a more enabling environment for private investments in emerging economies by lowering barriers to entry, more standardized approaches across actors, and increase the supply of high-quality, investible opportunities.

Implemented through Indigenous-led, gender-responsive, and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) approaches, it responds to escalating climate hazards and the limited reach of centralized disaster systems in outer-island contexts.

Building on proven results from Phase I, the project addresses persistent gaps in livelihoods, data, and climate preparedness by promoting inclusive governance, improving post-harvest practices, and strengthening early-warning and anticipatory action. Gender equality is a central focus, with dedicated efforts to enhance women’s leadership, expand access to services, markets, and social protection, and support more diversified and resilient livelihoods for coastal communities facing growing climate and economic pressures.

• Providing coaching and hands-on support to investment funds on impact measurement and management (IMM), including good practices related to gender equality and climate considerations, delivered by the investment team.

The CESR Facility will support projects under four distinct windows: (i) Technical Assistance, to support capacity-building initiatives, policy and regulatory reforms, and targeted interventions, including efforts to address gender equality gaps in the energy and blue economy sectors; (ii) Energy Transition, which will accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels by financing renewable energy infrastructure, energy efficiency, and grid modernization in middle-income and creditworthy low-income countries; (iii) SIDS Renewable Energy, which will facilitate access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy in SIDS; and (iv) SIDS Blue Resilience, aimed at enhancing climate resilience in coastal and marine ecosystems, with a focus on nature-based solutions, sustainable fisheries, and marine infrastructure adaptation.

All CACF projects will explicitly and systematically implement gender equality considerations derived from gender equality analysis.

The project aims to help safeguard children’s right to safe, continuous, and quality learning by strengthening climate and disaster resilient Caribbean schools and education systems. The initiative will do so by integrating school safety into national policies, strengthening and retrofitting education infrastructure to adapt to climate change impacts, building capacity for disaster preparedness and psychosocial support, and promoting inclusive, violence-free learning environments.

The project aims to advance international police cooperation and promote a coordinated regional approach that more effectively addresses persistent and emerging terrorism-financing challenges in West Africa. By
disrupting illicit financial networks linked to terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) affiliates in West Africa and Sahel regions, the project supports regional and international efforts, notably through the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a G7 initiated global framework to combat financial crimes. By targeting illicit financial flows and strengthening regional border-security efforts, the initiative will reinforce intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and operational activities in key threat and transit countries. Project activities include: 1) conduct
analysis work on countering the financing of terrorism through joint baseline assessments; 2) organize training activities and tabletop exercises; and 3) conduct pre, post and active operational deployments.
