Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Catalyst Coated Membranes Using Fluorine-Free Solid Polymer Electrolytes for Hydrogen Technologies: An Accelerated Materials Discovery Approach
1016358
The Project's primary goal is to explore and demonstrate fluorine-free ionic polymers as replacements for perfluorinated sulfonic acid polymer (PFSA) in catalyst coated membranes (CCMs) of electrochemical energy conversion devices, leveraging accelerated materials discovery methods. This initiative is crucial in light of the impending prohibition of PFSA as a 'forever chemical', harmful to the environment. A longer-term aim is to develop a materials discovery method for CCMs that are not only fluorine?free but also free of precious metal-based electrocatalysts. Key outputs include feasibility studies and workplans for developing platforms to optimize fabrication conditions of fluorine-free electrocatalyst layers and handling systems for preparing and characterizing CCMs. Outcomes involve establishing a community of practice through workshops, laying groundwork for MAP modules integration into existing MAP ecosystems, and fostering industry interactions. This will significantly facilitate the commercialization of fluorine-free polymers and membranes for electrochemical energy conversion devices.

Hi-resolution Spatiotemporal Omics at the Cellular Level for Crop Improvement
1014613
Seeds are the primary source of plant-based protein, and a comprehensive understanding of the spatiotemporal developmental and metabolic pathways at the cellular level is essential for unraveling the fundamental mechanisms that can enhance plant-based protein crops. Metabolomics analysis holds immense promise and advantages compared to conventional methods. It often serves as the foundation for understanding the biochemical intricacies within cells. This research aims to create a high-resolution spatiotemporal atlas of the transcriptome, chromatin accessibility, and the metabolome for canola and pea, during seed development and in vitro embryogenesis, all at the cellular level. Furthermore, this multi-omics data will be integrated with pan?omics platforms and systems biology approaches. Additionally, an atlas focused on seed development under heat stress conditions will be generated. This dataset will serve as a foundational resource, enabling the prediction of complex seed component traits and the elucidation of regulatory networks for enhancing crop yield and seed quality.
