Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Gender-responsive climate smart agriculture food systems in the Caribbean
7454769 P012863001
This project aims to improve gender-responsive climate smart agriculture and food systems in the Caribbean. It recognizes the disproportionate impact of food price inflation, supply chain disruptions and climate change on the region. This project supports women and vulnerable groups in achieving food security and enhancing resilience to climate change. Project activities include: (1) designing and sharing knowledge products to facilitate the adoption of gender-responsive climate smart technologies, innovations, and practices; (2) enhancing production facilities to improve operations, climate resilience, quality, and reduce harvest loss and waste; and (3) developing and implementing gender-responsive decision-support tools for multi-hazard risk management.

Support to the Second Replenishment of the Green Climate Fund
7456853 P012385001
The second replenishment of the Green Climate Fund (GCF-2) aims to build on the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) existing portfolio to deepen its support to key transformative initiatives identified by countries in each of its eight results areas (energy generation and access; transport; buildings, cities, industries and appliances; forests and land use; health, food and water security; livelihoods of people and communities; ecosystems and ecosystem services; infrastructure and the built environment) to achieve the Paris Agreement goals.
The Paris Agreement works to bring all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects, with enhanced support to assist developing countries to do so. The Paris Agreement aims to limit the global temperature increase to well below 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees.
The GCF is the world’s largest dedicated fund working to help developing countries reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and enhance their ability to respond to climate change. The GCF is a financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and is one of the principal mechanisms for developed countries to deliver on their Paris Agreement commitment to support mitigation and adaptation efforts in developing countries.
The GCF programmes globally but specific attention and prioritization is given to Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States, and Africa.
Project activities include: (1) helping at least 570 - 900 million people in the poorest and most vulnerable developing countries adapt to the effects of climate change; and (2) reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 1.5 to 2.4 billion tonnes.
