Grants and Contributions

• The CIHR HIV/AIDS and STBBI Research Initiative, under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (III), is responsible for the funding, management and oversight of research with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS and/or other STBBI (as identified in the Public Health Agency of Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action). This includes, but is not limited to: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV), chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and human papilloma virus (HPV). This funding is provided across all CIHR Research Themes: biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social, cultural, environmental and population health research.
• Research that focuses on key populations identified by Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action is highly encouraged.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program aims to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and to position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow, positively contributing to Canada’s economic, social and research-based growth through a research-intensive career.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Support the growth of emerging research foci and priorities that have the potential to advance the health and well-being of youth in Canada,
• Support the development of collaboration, both within the research community, as well as with knowledge users, policy makers and other key partners, including youth, that will enhance interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches to research and knowledge mobilization, and,
• Build capacity, both in terms of the researcher career pathway, and the engagement of youth throughout the research process to enhance youth health research.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• To catalyze and support research efforts of Canadian researchers to use the available CLSA data in order to better understand how biological, medical, psychological, social, lifestyle and/or economic aspects of people’s lives have an impact on both maintaining health and the development of disease and disability as people age.

The goal of the Data Analysis Grants is to use existing cohorts, data platforms and/or administrative datasets to advance healthy cities intervention research and implementation science specifically by addressing one or more of the following objectives:

• Evaluating the impact on health and health equity of interventions to the physical, social or policy environment (including health system–mediated interventions);
• Contributing analyses to directly inform the planning of physical, social or policy interventions with the purpose of improving urban population health or health equity;
• Addressing critical contextual questions related to the implementation of one or more interventions and scaling up (knowledge sharing) of evidence-based interventions (including health system-mediated interventions);
• Filling knowledge gaps that are critical for laying the foundation for future population health intervention research in urban areas. For example, increasing our understanding around how interventions may impact populations differentially according to gender, age, race, culture, ethnicity, income, or dis/ability;
• Developing and/or validating indicators and other data or evaluation tools that enable robust, comparable, replicable and equitable healthy cities intervention research and implementation science (including health system-mediated interventions).

• Create new knowledge through the analysis of existing cohorts, data platforms and/or administrative datasets specific to human development, child, and/or youth health and in turn improve health outcomes and inform population and public health decision-making.

• This prize was established to honour the past Scientific Director of the Institute of Aging, Yves Joanette, for his outstanding contributions to the area of research on aging in Canada and Internationally.
• This prize will be given annually to the highest-ranking funded project in the Project Grant competition that is relevant to one of the Institute of Aging’s areas as outlined in the CIHR IA Strategic Plan 2023-2028: Reframing Aging Empowering Older Adults.
• This prize is a supplemental grant to support research and has to be used according to the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide. The prize is not a personal award and is non-renewable.
