Following the JWST ERS and Cycle 2 GO Announcement of Opportunity published on July 6, 2023, the CSA is providing funding via a Grant Agreement to the university to conduct their research using the JWST data.

This project will study a population of globular clusters surrounding a galaxy dubbed ‘The Sparkler’ which was discovered by Canadian astronomers in 2022.

This project will image a nearby galaxy with JWST to make the best available maps of the gas within it.

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are energetic radio flashes that emanate from extragalactic sources of unknown origin. This project will use AstroSat and several sensitive ground-based radio telescopes (GBT, Effelsberg, and CHIME) to conduct simultaneous X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, and radio observations of FRB 20200120E, the closest known extragalactic repeating FRB, during a radio outburst.

The Artemis III Geology Team Grant was awarded to Western University, whose scientist Dr. Gordon Osinski was selected to be part of the geology team through a NASA-led competitive process that was open to international scientists. The objective of this grant is to support the selected scientist and allow them to take part in the scientific team that will support the Artemis III mission planning and operations. This will include planning the scientific tasks of the astronauts as they walk on the Moon, ensuring that the mission achieves its scientific objectives, and the analysis of the returned lunar materials.

This project will support the reduction, calibration, and analysis of imaging data of several nearby giant galaxies from the UVIT instrument aboard the AstroSat space telescope.

This grant is Canada's institutional support to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). IATI uses members’ contributions to achieve its mandate, making information on international aid spending easier to access, use, and understand. It seeks to ensure donor countries, developing country governments and non-governmental organizations publish more timely, comprehensive, and forward-looking information on international development assistance in a common, open data standard.

IATI Secretariat responsibilities include: (1) maintaining the IATI Registry, website and tools; (2) facilitating technical discussions related to the IATI standard, data publication and use; (3) assessing progress on open aid data; and (4) providing technical support to publishers and users of the data.

The project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of targeted high Andean ecosystems and populations. Project activities include (1) providing technical assistance to targeted communities in the high Andes to enable and strengthen ecosystem-based adaptation measures and climate resilient value chains; (2) establishing a financing facility with public and private investments to provide indigenous men and women with access to finance sustainable livelihoods; and (3) increasing women’s participation in territorial planning and governance processes. The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) implements this project.

This project seeks to enhance the socio-economic inclusion and integration of migrants, refugees and returned emigrants. This includes women and children in selected host countries of Latin America and the Caribbean who participate in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP). The project works via 2 complementary components: (1) technical assistance to host governments in designing and implementing strategies in response to the refugee and migrant crises; and (2) collaboration with the private sector in promoting access to economic opportunities for migrants and host community members. This includes women, Indigenous Peoples, and persons with disabilities. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the capacity of host country governments to provide regularization, documentation, and protection services to refugees and migrants; (2) providing access to basic services and social protections, including housing and social infrastructure, for refugees and migrants; (3) improving access to health, quality education, and skills development for refugees and migrants; and (4) improving economic opportunities for refugees and migrants, including access to employment, financial services and capital. The Grant Facility on Migration of the Inter-American Development Bank implements this project. To date, over 1.8 million refugees and migrants and their host communities have benefitted from the Facility's operations and technical cooperation. Canada's support via this project seeks to reach 71,604 additional direct beneficiaries.

This project aims to reduce suffering and improve the mental health and psychosocial well-being of
conflict-affected Ukrainians, and strengthen the systems and delivery of mental health and psychosocial support in Ukraine. Canada will contribute to three strategic priorities of the World Health Organization's overall Mental Health Program for Ukraine (2023-2028). Project activities include: (1) supporting capacity-building of technical coordination groups through the Ukraine National Mental Health Center, and the national and sub-national working groups, including for humanitarian response; (2) working with local health service providers to support direct service provision through Primary Health Centers (PHC) professionals and community stakeholders; (3) supporting social cohesion programming, and promoting health rights programming with civil society organizations.

The project aims to improve the human dignity of women, particularly Indigenous and rural women domestic care workers in Honduras. Project activities include: (1) training paid domestic workers on life, technical and negotiation skills and rights.
