Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Optimum design layout for modular and offsite construction (MOC) to minimize the life cycle environmental impacts and cost (LCA/LCC)

Agreement Number:

1015472

Duration: from Mar 20, 2024 to Oct 31, 2026
Description:

The main objective of the proposed research is to support the decarbonization of offsite construction by mitigate process waste and carbon footprint without scarifying costs through development of optimal space layout design system This will involve: (1) developing an automated space layout design system; (2) developing automated MOC-LCC and LCA models in accordance with various space layouts; (3) developing KPI-based performance evaluation platform which evaluates the performance of MOC (factory, transportation and onsite operations) in accordance with various layouts; and (4) developing a framework for optimal space layout design in MOC to contribute to decarbonization and minimize project costs.

Room Temperature Magnetic Quantum Sensor

Agreement Number:

1015831

Duration: from Mar 20, 2024 to Mar 31, 2028
Description:

Quantum optical magnetometers (QOM) are leading candidates for expanding searches for new physics and magnetic sensing applications, e.g., resource exploration, nuclear magnetic resonance chemical analysis and magnetic resonance imaging. The Project will establish a new QOM approach by developing a novel powerful ultraviolet frequency comb laser that coherently addresses (via two-photon excitation) the quantum ground state in xenon-129, which boasts hours-long spin quantum coherence time at room temperature.
