Grants and Contributions

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Generate new knowledge around the risk and protective factors for the full spectrum of problematic gambling and/or gaming;
• Generate intervention-related evidence to address the needs of knowledge users in this space, including health care and/or health services policy and practice, as well as for regulatory aims;
• Generate data and evidence to monitor and evaluate the potential benefits, harms, and unintended consequences of federal and/or provincial/territorial gambling and/or gaming regulations on health;
• Facilitate consideration and application of new evidence to inform ongoing and future development of policies, practices and programs related to gambling and/or gaming;
• Encourage approaches that consider different populations, particularly those from marginalized populations and/or the implications of the social determinants of health in problematic gambling and/or gaming.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• To contribute to the improved health of PSP with PTSI by generating relevant and timely evidence around the merit, validity, and appropriateness of the two targeted support systems identified through this program.
• To assess the potential impacts of these two targeted support systems on PSP, including through novel and innovative research approaches directly using the core technologies/methodologies in place at the Research and Coordination hubs.
• To contribute to the development of sustainable support systems for PSP by catalyzing research on potentially effective support models, and through the development of evidence summaries, best practices, and guidance documents for the targeted support models identified through this program.

The CIHR Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Initiative, under the co-leadership of CIHR's Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III) and CIHR's Institute of Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) supports the development of broader, more cohesive engagement and actions, methods and tools to combat AMR and improve antimicrobial use.

• The CIHR Institute for Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) will fund applications that are relevant to their mandate, focused on improving equitable health outcomes and aligned with one of the following priority areas identified in Transforming Public Health: IPPH Strategic Plan 2022-2026:
o Healthy Cities: IPPH will support proposals that are aligned with CIHR’s Healthy Cities Research Initiative (HCRI) and are focused on population health intervention research and/or implementation science as it relates to urban environments.
o Equity Science: IPPH will support proposals that advance the development and use of community-led and community-based data driven approaches for health solutions addressing experiences of disadvantage and discrimination.
o Public Health Systems: IPPH will support proposals that aim to identify and/or address key public health systems research priorities in Canada.

This prize will be given annually to the top Early-Career Researcher with the highest ranking project in the Project competition that is relevant to one of the Institute of Aging’s areas as outlined in the CIHR IA Strategic Plan 2023-2028: Reframing Aging Empowering Older Adults.
• This prize is a supplemental grant to support research and must be used according to the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide.
