For the purpose of this PA, sport is defined as “Activities that develop specific skills, and that are organized around competition and governed by rules” and will contribute to the National Women's Health Research Initiative (NWHRI) which is advancing a coordinated research program that addresses under-researched and high-priority areas of women's health and will ensure new evidence improves women's and gender-diverse people's care and health outcomes.

This award will be given annually to the highest-ranking Early Career Researchers in the Project competition that fall within the CIHR Institute of Cancer Research (CIHR-ICR) mandate:
o ICR has a mandate to support research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatments, psycho-social support systems, and palliation.

• This priority announcement (PA) is designed to support research in Cancer Prevention and Early Detection of Cancer within the following areas:
o Research that prevents the onset of cancer (lowers cancer risk) and/or reduces the severity of the disease through early detection when it is at its most treatable.
o Research that creates new knowledge in cancer prevention and screening and/or moves it into practice in the health system, communities, workplaces, and in the daily lives of Canadians.

• The CIHR Institute of Genetics (CIHR-IG) will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to its mandate:
o CIHR-IG supports research on the human and model genomes and on all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to health and disease, including the translation of knowledge into health policy and practice, and the societal implications of genetic discoveries

• Incorporating sex and gender into health research makes for better science that is more rigorous and more applicable to the needs of everybody. The CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (CIHR-IGH) will provide funding for applications that are relevant to its mandate:
o The CIHR-IGH mandate is to foster research excellence regarding the influence of sex and gender on health and to apply these findings to identify and address pressing health challenges facing men, women, girls, boys and gender-diverse people.

The specific objective of this funding opportunity is:

• To provide entry for trainees to the SPA 2024 program to trainees interested in the area of: Ageism in Health Research, Delivery, and Outcomes in Older Adults.

To provide travel awards to individuals attending the 2024 CIHR-III New Investigator Forum (NIF) in person. The objective of the NIF is to provide practical information and learning opportunities to promote the professional development of early career researches, as well as late-stage postdoctoral fellows or research associates, whose research is relevant to III’s mandate.

The objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
1. Support Canadian registered charities or non-profit organizations with work in the area of aging in the mobilization and dissemination of knowledge to those who would benefit from being better informed Areas must be relevant to at least one of the CIHR Institute of Aging’s Strategic Research Directions.
2. Enhance the impact of available knowledge concerning the area of aging.

• The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) will provide funding for applications determined to be specifically relevant to the CIHR-ICRH broad mandate and to support research and the development of research capacity in the areas of circulatory and respiratory health including disease mechanisms, disease prevention, management and treatment, health systems and policies, and health promotion through public policy.
